Nature of the afterlife
I am often disturbed by the beliefs of the religious. Certainly throughout my adult life I have become more and more disturbed by what some will be believe, and what those believes lead to.
Perhaps what disturbs me most is the whole christian view of the afterlife. Only recently (because of the Hitler in heaven topic) did it click that the christian idea of the afterlife has it'sown concentartion camps/gas chambers in the form of hell (depending on which version of hell they ascribe to). The afterlife, to them, is some utopia, but only for the chosen. The unworthy, the sinners, are cast aside. They're destroyed, like trash.
What disturbs me most is how many are actually happy to believe that. That they somehow seem to think that's a good thing. How on Earth do they? That system, that they think is so good is exactly the same as the very worst ones on Earth. And they delude themselves by saying it's a god of love that does it (when it's clearly a genocidal dictator).
How and why anyone could believe that and think it'sgod, I have no idea.
I think there's an afterlife, but it's not the horror show they believe in. It's better than this. We live in a world where people are killed for their sexuality, for their religion (or lack of it), for the colour of their skin. Why would you choose to believe in an afterlife that perpetuates any of those injusties? Why not believe in something better?
If the christian go was really one of love, then why not have that instead of the screw up system they believe?
When I die, I don't want an afterlife where I'd be persecuted worse than I am in life. Why others would want that, I dunno.
