AA Retreat this weekend

It is good having the AA retreat back with us.  We have three groups that come each year, and I can say each is my favorite.  For those who do the 12 steps and they have to do them as part of a spiritual practice, I have only the greatest respect.  Now the 12 steps are being used by many different types of people.  Below is something on the 12 steps for Christians in general or anyone in general actually. Below is one such online group

(
Celebrate Recovery is a Christian 12 Step support and recovery program that addresses any of life’s hurts, habits, or hang-ups; that’s any type of emotional struggle, addiction, compulsion or dysfunctional behavior.  CR directly deals with all areas of struggle – drug/alcohol, relationship issues, divorce, codependency, abuse, resentments, un-forgiveness, anger, sex, eating/not eating, gambling, grief/loss, depression, etc. – any of the many things that can trip us up!  CR is a Christian Program where many are finding real victory from their pain, true freedom from their shame, and lasting sobriety from their negative life-controlling habits.)

For those who have problems with discipline, or with finding a compassionate community, I would recommend giving the 12 steps groups a try.  Perfect (?), well no, they are filled with people who know their brokenness and need of grace, so they are real and to not need to put on false airs to impress.  As Christians we are called to grow in self knowledge so that we can be compassionate to others.  Many churches have 12 steps groups as part of their outreach.

Failure is also part of the process.  Many start over many times, others don’t, yet all know of their need for grace as well as community.  Those who take the white chip many times and those who don’t are all successful if they keep on the journey and do not give up on the mercy and compassion of the group, or of the mercy of God.

It is good having them here.
