Energy
Spoke to a fellow teacher the other day about bias when assessments are marked.
Example. I want you to answer questions about energy and the type of energy we find in the world.
My question asked is what uses energy. I have an idea of what the answers to the question should be, and when marking the assessment I am Looking for that/those answers. Hence I disregard the answers you give that is not the same as mine. Challenge being you are not taking into account that you posed a vague question to start with.
Never mind that you are closed minded in not thinking about the answers you receive. This made me think of someone ( don't know if they heard it in a movie) saying that no matter the circumstances you need to be specific. Create things in such a way, explain things in such a way that there is little or no different interpretations of the item.
For me, this is applicable in personal life as well as work environment. People get annoyed with me when I ask them to be specific, and after I explain why I say so they understand for that instance. Problem I have that we( people) have been so conditioned that next time the issue repeats. Takes a lot of energy to keep asking for clarification. Maybe I am wrong? maybe me asking them to be specific and analysing possible answers that could be, maybe that is just a waste of energy....I dunno.
