Hello everyone. Last weekend my mum and her BF went camping in West Virgina, while they were out riding along the trails (They were quad-biking) they passed an old tunnel, my mum took a pic with her iPhone and showed me this image:

Which seems to show an odd v-shaped object. While it may have simply been a camera burp, or the strap of the phone case, this image taken moments later shows no sigh of the anomaly:

I'm not saying this is a ghostly photo, i just wanna hear your thoughts on what this could have been.

It looks to me like something momentarily in shot, flapping in front of the phone. As you said, the strap or something.

Thanks for the reply! That's what i was thinking too, only that her phone strap is purple.

You can't judge a color that's whizzing through.

If you look at where the light and dark bits are, you can tell that the strap is moving out of shot, down left.

Your mum could have inadvertently left her finger in the way while taking the pic.

Yes, it does!  You can see the nail.

Something definitely was there in front of the lens, the auto focus function was trying at a grab at it ... or maybe it was just the battery on Power Save Mode and the functions were a bit laggy when mom snapped at it ...

1. The AutoFocus is obviously focused very close - so *something* was likely very close to the camera.

2. The thing appears to show directional blurring, from lower left to upper right - so it was likely moving.

3. It seems to be close to flesh colored, with some color loss from the out of focus and motion blurring.

4. There seems to be a small lens flare just below centre - I'm guessing the photographer had shiny nail polish on, or perhaps a ring, that caught some sunlight or bright sky.

The motion blur and that lens flare also give us a clue as to why the AF seems to have focused too close - the motion means it probably couldn't lock onto a high contrast area, and indeed the small lens flare may have fooled it into focusing briefly on what was an internal lens artifact..

All in all, it's very likely a finger, moving fast, with something reflective (either nail polish or jewelry) on it.

The object could also be a gray insect that flew in front of the camera
