Ancient Egyptian Singing Statue | Colissi
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, that have been standing in front of the Theban Necropolis just west of the Nile river and the city of Luxor for the past 3,400 years.
The statues were originally constructed to stand guard over Amenhoptep's memorial temple,an incredible complex, that covered over 86 acres.
The North statue has been reported to cry or sing at dawn after Memnon who was the son of Eos goddess of dawn was slain by Achilles, and that is how the name became associated.
Interestingly similar sounds have been heard at other ancient Egyptian sites ,Karnak is one of them.
There are several theories that have been put forth about the vocal memnon but none have proven conclusive thus far.
Could the ancient builders have incorporated some sort of sound technology that still functions today? Many ancient civilizations were familiar with and used advanced sound technology in some of their megalithic sites. It's an interesting possibility to think about.
