Le Tour de France... in my back yard.

Posted by Waspie_Dwarf , in Sport 06 July 2007 · 123 views

I've been lucky in my life to have been able to see some great sporting events.

I was present at Spa-Francorchamps in 1992 when Michael Schumacher won his first Grand Prix. I've seen the cream of the worlds motorcycle racers in both GP and Superbikes. I've watched Thierry Henry score a wonder goal at Maine Road. I've seen Ian Botham destroy a bowling attack. I've watched Henman and Rusedski on Centre court at Wimbledon. I've watched my beloved Wasps playing in nine major finals and win 8, and I was at Twickenham when an unfancied England side took on the Springboks and denied them the world record for the most consecutive wins in International Rugby Union history.

One major sporting event I never considered going to was the Tour De France. However on Sunday the Tour De France comes to me. For the first time in it's history the Tour is starting in London. On Sunday the best cyclists in the world will ride from central London through Kent to Canterbury. The route will be passing about a mile form my house.

It would seem churlish not to take my camera and watch this once in a life time experience.

A once in lifetime opportunity, Waspie, I can't wait to see the pics!!!

It would be a grand thing to see, a worldwide event like that. Passing right through your own backyard. yes.gif

The view from my bedroom isn't usually a spectacular one, but every now and then Mother Nature dips into her pots of paint are produces a sky like this.
