Oh geez

My first major test as a manager and OMGFG is it a good one........I have been given FULL responsibilty for hiring my deputy.
A few weeks ago this was easy, I had already offered the job to someone who then turned it down because he was made a better offer to stay by his boss (understandable).
I then had to choose between 2 people and had pretty much made up my mind...............
until...........
First choice turned up to say he had made a mistake and would I still consider him :s
My 3 choices are...
1: A guy who could do the job easily, is prone to standing around talking but would fit in reasonably well with the existing team.
2: A woman who could do the job extremely well but who may not fit in too well with the team and who also has a history of back problems (officially I cannot take this into account as it could be considered discrimination but in reality a lot of this job involves heavy lifting so it is an issue for me)
3: A guy who could do the job well, would be LOVED by all members of staff but who's commitment to the job I am unsure of :s
Do I go with personal feeling?, in which case number 3 gets the job. Professional opinion? in which case number 2 is hired or go with the safe all rounder? (altho not first choice in anything specific) in which case number 1 becomes part of the team.
I can't afford to screw this decision up.........I've already worked nearly a year with only one day off a week (if I'm lucky) and I really need to get the right person but OMG I never realised it would be so hard
My head hurts

FINALLY I have something worth writing about in this darn thing....
Today after 7 long months of working 6 days a week (if I'm lucky enough to get a day off) I got my promotion.
Actually I got a promotion 2 weeks ago to deputy manager...............but he upped it today to MANAGER !
Oh yes, I am now officially the BOSS, be afraid.............my ego knows no bounds at the moment.
And now I need a deputy, anyone wanna job?

Woo Hoo
In exactly 24 hours I will be at Edinburgh train station meeting saru, dazzy, snowy and her hubby-to-be
I'm sooooooo excited, I finally get to meet the white wizard AND he's even promised to trim his beard specially
. Still not 100% sure exactly what we are doing all weekend altho a trip down Edinburgh vaults is a definate as is the Castle.
Hardest part is going to be remembering that people do actually have real names.....altho I think I managed that ok last time I met up with dazzy and snowy (altho I did have a wee giggle to myself every time I got called "thistle")
And now I must away and pack
......be afraid saru, my camera is armed with film and will be pointed your way soon

Soooo my brother has joined UM ..... it is no longer a safe haven
On the bright side is the fact that I may now exact revenge for all those years of him picking on me cos he is older and bigger by shamelessly editing his profile to say nice things about me
Woo hoooooooo Be afraid Big Brother for you are now under MY power mwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha (sort of)(ish)(don't pick on me)(or I'll tell Mum)(and Dad)

I can't help notice that Walken has an unhealthy obsession with my signature quote
.
Soooo I thought I'd make this wee entry to put his mind at rest.......then I thought "Naaaaaah, this is funny" so erm, sorry Walken you'll just have to keep wondering.

Why be a mod?

So why be a mod? . The hours are long, you often have to read threads that don’t interest you in the slightest, the pay sucks ( Saruman does occassionally throw a shiny new penny our way….we have to share though). We have to get involved in arguments…..most of them along the following lines
A - I’m right cos I said so
B - Nuh, I’m right and you’re stupid
A - Nuh Uh, You’re MORE stupid
B – I’m not going to talk to you anymore
A – Good cos I’m not going to talk to you either
B – but……..
Etc etc etc, this is usually followed by………
A – He started it
B – Nuh uh HE started it cos he’s stupid
No matter what we do in these cases, someone will decide we are biased, sure, sometimes we get things wrong …….. last time I checked we were all human, it happens. In extreme cases we are often requested to “play” with various implements
(these pm’s however usually make me giggle quite a lot as they are normally full of terrible spelling and grammar as you would expect).
One of my personal favourites however is when someone makes a post that everyone finds SO offensive they are compelled to quote it …… several times !!!! Thanks for that guys, we love having to edit 6 posts instead of one, it really brightens our day. Arm in arm with that go the “spam” threads that outrage people so much they must reply to them, sometimes posting nothing more than “SPAM” over and over again (please note this is ALSO considered to be spam).
So why do it? Simple, we love UM and are proud of the fact that Saruman has created the largest paranormal forum in the World and may I add the best. We want to keep it that way and if we have to take a few insults along the way then so be it. And every now and again someone somewhere says “thankyou” that’s enough for me.
Be nice to us mods please (or we’ll get you
)

K, I've really gone and done it now. My sister in law asked if I fancied going for a drink with her 2morro night.......obviously I said yes. Then it just occurered to me "OMG ! smoke filled pub.......sis in law a smoker". I CAN'T back out at all, she is sooooo looking forward to a night away from the kids but I really don't think I'm ready to tackle the whole "no smoking while out" scene. I shall just have to tell her to slap me if I start salivating everytime she lights up
On a lighter note.......Woo Hooooooooooo........no work til Tuesday
*does a wee dance of pure joy*

To wave bye bye to my ciggies (again)
or maybe
not quite sure yet lol.
At this moment I have 3 left and I'm gonna smoke them all before I go to bed and get the old patches out in the morning. Time will tell if I succeed or not but at least I'm gonna try.
*gets nervous thinking about it*
I may have to start biting my fingernails (sorry Potty, I know I shout at you for doing that but all is forgiven lol)
Anyhoo....I really gotta do it now that I've said publicly I will lol
*lights 3rd last ciggie*
Sooooooo......apologies to anyone if I poke them unnecessarily, at least you'll know why
<---- hopefully not me 2morro
