I fell prey to a commercial

Posted by The Mule , 08 September 2012 · 471 views

I pride myself on not allowing commercialism and consumerism to invade my life. I don't follow fashion or fads. I not only march to the beat of a different drum, I AM the different drummer.

But last night I saw a commercial....and it looked good. Then I realized...YES!! There already WAS one commercial that I could not resist. The allure of oral satisfaction that it promised was too much to ignore. It was just last Christmas time that it came on. And yes I went out and bought that product the next time I was at the store.

As an aside, whlie I was driving home today I noticed the car in front of me had not one, but two bumperstickers advertising a company who's most notable product is an animated rodent. They own theme parks, movie studios, and who only knows what else. Not only 2 bumper stickers, but also some kind of antenna thingie too. Im SURE the owner of the car had to purchase those things. Pay....for the right to drive around and advertize for one of the worlds largest corporations.

Thats what Im all about....I'll be damned if I give someone like that free publicity. Which also puts me in a quandry, because now I can't tell you the name of the product who's commercial was so irresistable that I had to purchase their product.

So .....there's soft choclate. Inside a shell of harder chocolate. Thats all it was. Chocolate.

You may now resume your regularly scheduled programming....

Nice entry. Not owning a tv has insulated me somewhat from these kinds of urges, but not completely. I admit I fail, too, occasionally. My mother used to say it doesn't matter which brand of product you buy, they're all the best!

Your blog entry here has given me an idea for a future blog entry of my own. Thanks! I'll acknowledge your inspiration when I finish writing it, poor thing that it will be.

I once wrote a story about talking donkeys, now I think maybe I should have made them mules.

This reminds me of a conversation I just had with my 5 year old about what was so special to him about mcdonalds.  For the most part he couldn't care less about brands yet, but those golden arches pull him in all the time.
And I think I have a good idea which chocolate you are talking about. I wait until Christmas and get them "free" with dinner from Swiss Chalet. :P

i read something like this blog, understand it, enjoy it, feel inclined to reply with my own observation or two on it.. but the comments were already made, starmountainkid, sarah44.. they say what needs saying without saying it.. in the same way mule says the company name and product without saying it..

so i wont say anything about how i bolded the word 'feel' to suggest this is how the ads work, manipulating emotions rather than logic, in the same way a child is intruiged by golden arches.. the ad never speaks the truth it just shows you what you want the truth to be. in the same way the actual McDonalds burger you buy is never the same thing you saw in the ad.

exactly. :tu: you know they're mind******* us.

uhh, anyway sorry for trolling your blog

ah...if your comments really bothered me I would delete them.

I just find it odd that both commericials that had any effect on me both involved chocolate....

I was watching a video on you tube the other day, something about crazy obsessions and there was a woman who was just ape**** for the mouse... to the point that she spent hundreds? of dollars on merchandise every week.  She almost cried when she tried to buy a display and they said they couldn't sell it.

I threw up in my mouth a little bit.
