"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things"

I'm contemplating the "little things" this morning. You know, the "little" things that with a shift of perspective really are some of the big things. Small and seemingly insignificant to some, these things inspire me everyday.
Sunlight and it's visual effects on everything it touches. Especially that deep orange, late evening sunlight that makes everything glow.
Seeing a dog riding in the car with it's head out the window, perfectly and blissfully happy.
The simplicity of wind chimes.
Waking up to rain hitting the window. The smell of rain, walking in rain, feeling rain on my face..there's a pattern here....
Waking up in the winter and knowing it snowed before I look out the window.
Music and it's ability to affect and move people emotionally, whether it's giving someone energy or bringing comfort.
The random acts of kindness that strangers do for one another, like holding a door open for someone or just saying hello.
Laughter, but especially that laughter that comes from my kids when they are getting tickled or find the smallest thing (like the word "Unibrow") hilarious and cannot control themselves almost to the point of hyperventilating.
The Sky. Whether it's blue and full of puffy white clouds, grey and stormy, painted with colours of the setting sun or dark and filled with stars...I love it and always find myself looking up when I'm out walking or on a hike.
Watching bees buzz around flower to flower in the backyard and the awe on my kid's faces when they learn the beauty in observing instead of running away screaming.
Silence.
(I'm going to get into this one a little bit. I've always been completely comfortable being quiet and alone with my thoughts. I have 2 small kids, there isn't a lot of silence in this house, so when I get it, I soak in it.
Even as a kid I remember sometimes being sent to go get paper or chalk from the "supply room" which was more like a giant closet in the far corner of the school. Once the door closed it was perfectly quiet, and I would sit there for a few minutes letting the peace flood over me. I had probably never even heard of "meditation" before, but I knew it's benefits. I would head back to the classroom much more calm, alert and aware. )
My dreams and how they can be mysterious, familiar and invoke so much emotion.
Hearing my son's dreams when he wakes up in the morning.
The spark of connection when people open up and share something close to the heart.
Scents that bring back good memories (for me it's cedar, campfire smoke and rain)
Those are just a few. I think it's important to notice these little things, find what inspires you in your own life and be grateful for it.
(If you actually read this and made it down to the end, congratulations.)
