The Stillness of a Winter Night

Posted by sarah_444 , in poetry 13 December 2012 · 324 views

It's nostalgic and heart warming
to gaze from the window
music softly playing
watching the snow fall as it gathers on the sill

It fills the roads inch by inch
snow on snow
dancing under streetlights
and blanketing parked cars

But if you are brave, take yourself out (don't forget your hat)
and you will discover something...
magical
for in the stillness of a winter night
a transformed world is much enchanting

Flakes float down gracefully
like feathers
landing your cheeks
peace and wonder soon replace your chill

Inhale the scent of snowy air
as it mingles with nearby pines and cedars

You can hear the snow falling, if you listen
landing softer than a whisper
on branches, covering every twig
in a somber Winter lullabye

And the stars seem to have fallen
as they sparkle and crunch beneath your feet
glittering like diamonds, in the glow of a sky
tinted a mesmerizing gold and grey

It's a colour you can get lost in
the loudest silence you will ever feel
now do you see?
a winter's night is anything but still
the stillness is what comes from within you
