bright ball comet meteor energy luminous

something like 18 months ago i was in my moms house, on the lower level floor, just about to fall asleep on my side (facing the window) when sorta for no reason i turned to look over my shoulder up to the ceiling and saw this bright ball on the ceiling. it was golden/yellowish in color and had a stem to it that made it resemble a comet. (obviously it wasnt a comet ha) then i watched as it faded out. i wasnt startled because i thought at first it was my cell phone and then as i fiddled with it i realized it wasnt-my cell phone basically illuminated the whole room. i thought maybe it was the flashlight that was under the nightstand. so i turned it on in the dark and pointed it at the ceiling but it was a washed out flat color with no focal light point. i was kinda going nuts trying to figure out what the hell it came from. then i decided it was probably my brother-or rather his laptop light coming through the vent or something. so i called him from downstairs waking him up and asked him about the possibility of his laptop turning on and having the light drift through the vent...to ceiling of the room in which i was sleeping(?). he said that his laptop was on the table. i wonder if anyone else has had this randomly happen or knows what it is?
