Starting up and background info

Hey again everyone. I am starting this blog and it will be much different than my other blog. This will be more of a journal to help me keep accountability of myself but I also thought people might be able to benefit from it. I am transforming my lifestyle and thought people might be interested in following. I will be giving workout tips and cooking tips. Let me start by explaining the situation…

As many of you know I am a busy person. I have a son with a baby on the way, I work 3 nights a week, and was taking 20 credits. Let’s just say working out was not at the top of my list of priorities. Over the last few years I have put on a few extra pounds and want to get rid of those to look better and be healthier. I also have a little drinking…let’s call it a hobby…that I want to get rid of. We also want to save up some extra money. This summer I hope to make a lifestyle change and here is how I am going to do it…

Workout daily (or almost)
Eat better
Not having access to cash or our debit card
Get back into martial arts

Goals:
Lose 30 lbs
Get mile and a half time down to around 9 minutes
Get back into fight shape
Cut drinking out of my life

Long Term Goals:
I would like to run a marathon
Compete in some amateur grappling/wrestling/MMA competitions
Possibly get back into the power lifting. If I do decide to life heavy again I do not want to go extreme…I would only like to get back around 315 lbs in bench, squat, and dead lift.

Why might this be worth following?

I am not just some guy using his own “logic and reason” and going by Google or the T.V. I have a lot of using knowledge in the area and I have resources around me. Here is what I have…

I am a cook. It is my main job in the military but I also do it as a hobby. I do most of the cooking around the house. This summer I specifically want to focus on making Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food. I love it but do not have a lot of experience in that area. I can give people ideas on recipes and show quick easy meals.

My wife worked for SlimGenics for a time before she got her nursing job. She has the experience there and we still have the resources. It is one of the truly good dieting programs out there. She lost over 20 lbs doing it WITHOUT working out. http://www.slimgenics.com/

Also, my wife being a nurse (4 year RN) is big in the health industry and knows the facts and the studies. Our Chiropractor is also big in giving us the latest info and advice.

I also worked as a personal trainer. My main job in the Air Force for 2 years was fitness. I have the fitness training from the Air Force as well as a certification from the civilian world. I started my schooling as a Kinesiology major…I know what I am doing in this area. I was also a distance runner and wrestler in high school and a power lifter in the Air Force. I was a tank in the Air Force. I have won bench press contests as well as endurance contests.

Another resource is my best friend Andrew that is just moving back to the area. He has a degree in Exercise Science and Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota and worked on their strength and conditioning staff. He has currently been working on his Masters at the University of North Dakota and worked on their strength and conditioning staff but has just transfer backed to the University of Minnesota. He will be in the M.Ed program in applied kinesiology specializing in sports and exercise science. Let’s just say the guy knows what he is talking about…

Andrew and I actually had our own personal training business for a short time. We finished his garage, bought workout equipment, and trained people. We stopped with it after a short while because of my busy schedule and him moving to ND. Now it is just a workout area for us. We did pay off all of the equipment and make a profit while doing it...

Needless to say I will be making things happen and will show you how quickly results can come if one is going about it the right way. If anyone decides to come on my journey, I hope you enjoy it and find it useful.

I may add and edit this page a bit more but I am on starting entries tomorrow…
