An Early Workout

Posted by CommunitarianKevin , 18 May 2012 · 263 views

So it has been busier around here than I thought it was going to be but I am still getting things done. Did push-ups all through the day two days ago. I did sets of 20. Not sure about my total. Yesterday I was really sore from the push-ups (my lats were sore, oddly.) I did not do an official workout yesterday but we just found out that everything is a lock for the house. We close before June 1st. Also to our suprise our landlord is going to start showing this place at 5PM today...So my workout was house cleaning.

I did go for a run this morning. It did not go as well as the first run but that is probably because I have been up for 18 hours and just got off of work. I did run the whole time though. Running is 90% mental. Your body can physically put one foot infront of another for quite a while.

I also cooked something up for my wife last night...She wanted pasta but we had no sauce...so I used what I could find...

Spaghetti Alfredo

Ingredients:
Spaghetti Pasta (Whole Wheat)
Butter (1/2 stick)
Flour
Whole Milk (this was the winging it part, it should have been cream)
Parmesan Cheese (The dry grated stuff…I used half the container, so about 4 OZ)
Lemon Zest
Fresh Mint Leaves
Basil
Minced Garlic (about a table spoon)

Steps:
1.    Get you water boiling for the Pasta.
2.    Put half a stick of butter in a sauce pan and turn heat on high to melt it.
3.    Once the butter is melted, add flour to make a roux (make it a dough like consistency.)
4.    Wisk whole milk in slowly. Stir so there are not any chunks. Simmer on high and wait for it to thicken up (it was harder to figure out with whole milk as opposed to cream.)
5.    Add Parmesan Cheese. I added a lot here because it was not thickening up like I wanted it to but after adding the cheese I got my nice gravy-like consistency.
6.    Reduce heat but you still want it bubbling. Add a small amount of Lemon Zest, several Mint Leaves, Basil, and Minced Garlic. Let it cook while stirring it regularly.
7.    Put your Spaghetti Pasta into the boiling water and cook until soft (if you are using whole wheat pasta it remains firmer than normal pasta.
8.    OPTIONAL STEP: I sliced up some sweet peppers for mine. Added some nice color and texture plus it gets some veggies in there.
9.    Drain Pasta.
10.   Put Pasta on the plate with some sauce on top and enjoy.

I really like the way this one turned out. It tasted just as good as any Alfredo sauce I have made in the past. This recipe is worth trying out in my opinion.

Loving the journal man. Will have to give that recipe a try.
