I feel like I should ask this... I want to know your definition of the word and concept, "LOVE". Call it scientific research... Or just plain curiosity...
The difinition of love will depend on the maturity of the person experiencing it... so hopefully it will change and deepen as life moves on. I think it is a call to go outside of ourselves, or deeper in, depends on what spatial image suits you. It cause our world to expand, and when it becomes difficult it allows us to love the other freely, without seeking just what can be gotten out of it.

I see the word 'love' as a blanket term for many emotions and purposes, such as a trigger for reproductive acts, the need for security, a 'bond' within the herd/tribe, the impulse to feed and nurture the young to ensure their survival to further propagate the species etc. etc. Altruistic love only exists as an amalgam or distillation of other emotions or needs and IMO isn't an 'isolated' emotion.
