Prologue
"It is dark." Lucy says to herself. She is lying in her bed with the lights off. Not trying to sleep but trying to hold on to her sanity as it slowly slips away. Lucy is a young girl, eighteen years old, one month away from graduating high school. She is lying on her back sideways on the bed. Her long black hair cascades over the side. She is still wearing the clothes she wore to school that day. A black long-sleeved t-shirt and a long skirt of the same color. Her shoes have been kicked aside somewhere in the darkness.
"What's happening to me?" Lucy whispers to her black room. The events of this day replay in her mind over and over again. She cannot figure out exactly what happened or when. All she knows is her friend is gone, but Lucy can still hear her. So much has happened in the last two months. It all seems like a blur to Lucy Newhart. But now, everything is starting to become much clearer.
