PersonFromPorlock Posted June 23, 2012 #429 Share Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) http://wikimapia.org...04&z=16&l=0&m=b This is in China/Mongolia. It's obviously a fort - and a big one - but there doesn't seem to be anything about it on the Web. Anyone know anything? The fact that the walls are laid out more-or-less according to Vauban is kind of interesting. Edited June 23, 2012 by PersonFromPorlock
sarah snow Posted June 23, 2012 #430 Share Posted June 23, 2012 Thanks Sarah, heres the coordinates for the Tumuli - 50°42'52.30" N 2°35'03.03" W This might be the nearby stone circle, the Nine Stones - 50°42'43.79" N 2°33'09.58" W LINK-> http://www.megalithi...cle.php?sid=127 Or perhaps it's Kingston Russell - 50°41'18.79" N 2°35'56.25" W LINK-> http://www.megalithi...cle.php?sid=162 Hey Pax Unum, I'm sure you're right, on it being called The Nine Stones. Thanks for that I used to drive cross country and by there all the time, but since I moved, I have missed doing so as I always get a tingly feeling, around that area (geographically speaking, LOL) Staying in the village of Winterbourne Abbas has always been on my 'To Do' list. My friend & I stopped for a meal there about 4 years ago in the village pub, and the food was lovely. My friend is a die-hard real ale drinker, and he was very pleased with what they had. He's a fussy sod my best mate, a CAMRA Man through and through So I MUST, get my bum in gear and check out if that pub still does rooms, and check us in for a couple of rooms and ask the Farmer is we can be cheeky and go and visit the 'lumps and bumps' as well as the Stones Thanks for a lovely thread xxx
sarah snow Posted June 23, 2012 #431 Share Posted June 23, 2012 Archimedes- it's so interesting that you think there may be similarities between the Winterbourne Abbas site and what you have seen in Ireland. I'm a small part Irish, so that's of great interest to me, thank you!
