Elect Presidents from Secret Societies good?

In 2004 both candidates, Bush and Kerry, were members of the secret society Skull & Bones. Their membership became public knowledge when 'Meet The Press' host Tim Russert († 2008) asked both of them on his show about the implication. Both declined to offer any kind of an answer and quickly changed the subject. Members of Skull & Bones also includes many other influential Yale University graduates and several Presidents. When the people are prevented from knowing the truth, their only option is a conspiracy theory.

Would public awareness be able to force a small degree of transparancy? Is it important?

Tradition is important but not more important than transparency in today's troubled world. The problem is that people are so distrustful that even if the societies told all, few would accept it as truth unless it was horribly nefarious.

Transparancy allows to people to KNOW. If the government belongs to 'We the People' why should we not KNOW? We should be distrustful if we are simply being told. Because they WILL and DO hide something 'horribly nefarious'.

An interesting point. I'm not so sure about it, but it seems that the last sentence of Article I Section 9 of the US Constitution might touch upon the subject.

"No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States; And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State."

I wonder about citizenship from any foreign State?

I wonder about citizenship from any foreign State?

My concern is more that secret societies can create agendas that benefit somebody other than 'We the people'. Foreign countries or domestic power brokers.

For example, an episode of Law and Order showed two women killing each other's husbands. Because neither one had a motive on the surface, it was nearly impossible to connect them to their crimes. Much more difficult than murder for hire because there you have to deal with somebody you don't know, while in a secret society you can count on each other. If you imagine a secret society of 20 making an agenda to commit each other's crimes, you can see how this allows them to get away, literally, with murder.

Presidents and CEOs of media corporations, for example, could collude for the media to portray the President positively, and the President will do favors for the corporation in return. The secret society becomes the "real" government, the government in the open only does what the real tells them to do.

Secrets may be part of appropriate business practice but it can also be used against those the organization is supposed to protect.

Only transparancy can protect the stakeholders from being victimized.
