Assange didn't actually leak anything though, as I stated before. If he were to be tried for doing so then we'd have to try every newspaper that has ever published info that SOMEONE ELSE leaked...

Pretty much what I have been thinking. A vast amount of secret government material has been leaked to the media in many countries over the years.

Why are the right wing anti-government types ok with allowing their governments to cover up the truth in such a blatant fashion? The people have a right and a duty to know every little thing the government does. A true democratic society, whether it is a republic or a monarchy, requires that the citizens be well informed and educated so that the government they elect functions properly and efficiently.

You mean pro-government -

1. Wikileaks is a security threat to 1000s of ordinary people.

2. It damaged international relations with US aliies.

3. It undermines national security.

4. Its espionage.

Assange needs assassinating by the state. A person does not have the right to undermine the safety of 1000s and the state because their own narcissism tells them to do it.

Don't be so ridiculous. If everyone knew every single thing our governments did, then so would all of our enemies.

Britain has an obligation to extradite him to Sweden they can't just let him leave the country.

Under what law is Britain obligated to extradite him?

You might not know, but Assange has not even been indicted in Sweden. He is wanted for QUESTIONING. There is no warrant for his arrest.

And just to keep things totally in perspective here, the first prosecutor in Sweden threw the case out for lack of merit. It took a second, more politically 'connected' prosecutor to revive the case.

It is a fraud. Assange is a political enemy, nothing more. In this time of universal deceit, he chose to tell the truth. Indeed, as Orwell pointed out, that was a radical act against the establishment.

This is a distortion of the Swedish Legal Process.

Under their laws Questioning needs to happen before arrest. No matter what the allegations or evidence this is the process their Police Officers have to follow.

Assange is a crook and is trying to escape justice. He lost all his appeals in the UK which were followed properly so he runs off to the only embassy which will have him. Lets offer to let him sit a lie detector test in the embassy and then you'll see his true colours.

Is that right, only wanted for questioning ? Have the Swedish police not travelled to the UK to question him ? If not, it is farcical.

That is exactly the case Habitat.

Research it yourself if you wish. He and his British attorney offered to interview in person in Britain, over the phone if the Swedes wished, or any other way, except he was not going back to Sweden because they were trying to trap him for the Americans.

The case is a travesty. Don't know if it's true, but one of the women supposedly has some past history of involvement with the CIA in Cuba I think.

Right Wing

From whom has Assange stolen? Why do you call him a crook?

Can someone remind me what the hell he's doing over here to begin with? What did he come here for, to try and use our laws regarding genuine cases of political asylum to try and wriggle out of the mess he created...

@ expandmymind. Yeah the government we elected - so our enemies too.

What I dont understand is why doesn't Britain just extradite him to America if that's what it's all about. If the sex case thing is just a smoke screen why not do away with and send him back from here - is Britain America's lapdog or not?

Once again the Swedish justice system works differently that ours in that a person must be questioned before they can be legally arrested. The Swedes have also received no extradition request from the US.

You guys support someone trying to evade justice. This is the UK for Christs sake not North Korea. Our justice system is fair and he has spent the last 1 1/2 year going through it. He hasnt a leg to stand on so he runs to Ecuador to save him.

He is sick in the head.

Its easier to extradite him from the UK than sweden which again reveals the flaw in this conspiracy.

Just because 'we' elected them does not in any way then make their enemies ours. We have literally no control over what our governments do when they become elected. If Britain randomly decided to bomb Norway, would the Norwegians then be my enemies? Don't think so...

I'm not going to jump on the 'patriotic', 'nationalist', bandwagon, just because a cabinet controlled by power and money hungry elites decide they want to go to war with someone for THEIR profit and gain.

I'll just wait for the Argies to attack again (a righteous war), thank you very much...

What you say is true of course. But show me one country in the world where all the citizens agree with everything their government is doing. There can be no total democraceis in the world, there are too many people and it just wouldnt work. If you wanted to do a referendum on all aspects of government you'd never get anything done. We elect our leaders - our leaders lead. That's just how it is. And as for power hungry elites at the top, who else are you going to find there?

If the Swedes had their hearts set on delivering justice in the case, one would think they would send a bloody investigator to interview Assange to get to the bottom of the controversy. You know, that archaic concept of "listening to both sides?"

Evade justice? How so? Maybe in Sweden one is presumed guilty until one can prove one's innocence, but in most jurisdictions one is considered innocent until they can be proven guilty.

And let's consider the "crime". Apparently, and we can only surmise because the Swedes have kept this all hush-hush after the FIRST prosecutor found no case, Assange is accused of having used a defective condom during consensual relations with 2 women.

That requires extradition? If the case is so clear, why no indictment? Why no warrant?

Anybody with a scintilla of common sense who pays attention to international news stories knows this is about only ONE thing: Assange was instrumental in exposing the heinous crimes of the US government. He and Bradley Manning are political prisoners, and are paying a price for having stood on the side of decency.

So why isnt the U.K extraditing him to America?

And I wouldnt call putting peoples lives in danger by giving out their addressess decent.

You might not know, but Assange has not even been indicted in Sweden. He is wanted for QUESTIONING. There is no warrant for his arrest.

On 18 November 2010, prosecutor Marianne Ny asked the local district court for a warrant for the arrest of Assange in order for him to be interviewed by the prosecutor (this would have been his second interview) though he had fled to England the Swedish court ordered him detained.

On appeal, the Svea Court of Appeal upheld the warrant on suspicion of rape.

On 6 December 2010, Scotland Yard notified Assange that a valid European arrest warrant had been received.

The Supreme Court of Sweden decided not to consider a further appeal.

The High Court found that the Swedish process has reached the stage of criminal proceedings, which would be equivalent to having been charged under English process.

He fled Sweden for no other reason than to avoid it's criminal justice system, it doesn't matter if he's innocent or guilty what right minded person would oppose him facing these allegations?

2. It damaged international relations with US aliies.

Good, you shouldn't trust allies that spy on you.

3. It undermines national security.

The government says that about everything they don't like, regardless if it's true or not.

4. Its espionage.

Debateable. Wikileaks just publishes the material.

Assange needs assassinating by the state. A person does not have the right to undermine the safety of 1000s and the state because their own narcissism tells them to do it.

Thats the nanny state mentality right there. How many peoples safety is undermined by the actions of their government? We don't know if they aren't transparent.

Sounds to me like he wants the best of both worlds. He wants to expose the secrets of countries he's not even a citizen of, which in turn exposes the politicians at the heart of them (not a bad thing in itself, since they are accountable to those that elected them)...he however doesn't want to be accountable for anything...he thinks secrets should be exposed, but he can do what he likes and should be immune from the law.

Thing is at the moment he is not being asked to be accountable for wiki leaks and there are no warrants out for him for that. He wants wiki leaks to make him immune from prosecution for sexual crimes on a personal level. Lets face it, if you took out wiki leaks from the the situation the whole world would want him chucked out of the embassy and thrown to the public.

For God's sake even the much loved Clinton had to answer claims about his personal sexual life. Obviously Assange thinks he is above what he and his supporters say is the corrupt most powerful men in the world.

Lizard

Why aren't they extraditing him to the US?

Well, it's kinda like rendition--the US likes to use other governments to do their dirty work. Kinda like they had AT&Treason do the dirty work for the NSA in intercepting domestic and foreign communications without warrants.

They want to be able to tell the american sheeple that Assange committed rape in Sweden, and so our taking him into custody will achieve 2 goals. However they would say it, deception is being employed.

It's a pattern of behavior, rather decades old now.
