The end of the world - an overview

Kathy Watts: If we could step back and take a good look at the current state of our world and civilization, one could certainly argue that our days could be numbered, be it at the hands of man or nature. Almost every country on earth has fallen victim to deadly acts of terrorism, including that of the United States, India, Russia and every European country. The global economy is seemingly on the path to self-destruction. In addition to wide-spread poverty, disease and famine, natural disasters of biblical proportions have occurred, including Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami the likes of which are seen only once in several centuries. Ever-growing ecological and environmental disasters plague every corner of our planet, drifting us further and further from repairable solutions. Politically and religiously, fundamentalist and extremist groups rationalize their actions as means to ends that only instill further global discord. And, through the magic of television, cell phone cameras and other technologies, we get to see these disasters unfold in real-time, some of them being calamities that no one had ever seen before, while nestled in the comfort of our own homes. When the physical world gets impossible, people turn to the spiritual world to keep themselves going. Sometimes, the sheer promise of an end to the misery can be sweetest salve of all.

Now people acknowledge the spiritual world. Thats good. At this point, the world is in such calamity that we need some form of a savior, be it Angelic or Human.

Also, for the record, the Bible says nothing of the end of the world.

It speaks of the end of this present wicked system of things & those ruining the Earth, not the end of the world.

Exactly! Unfortunately that evolution is going to require death, destruction and displacement on a scale never before known... but on the other side - a new beginning.

Precisely. ^ ^

The only people who have anything to be up-in-arms about are disobedient & unrepentant sinners, particularly those who are ruining the Earth.

My advice to all of my cousins around the wonderful globe is to give your life to Christ before it's too late.

Illogical reasoning brought about by desperation isn't a good thing.

I agree. Don't see how that has any relevance to my post, though.

You're saying it is good for people to acknowledge the "spiritual world" out of desperation (which the article shows).

No, I'm saying it's good people acknowledge the spiritual world, period. Although I'm not denying the person in the article acknowledges it out of desperation.

i don't get one thing here.

Most here admit the 'end' is not coming *blah blah blah blah*.. but then many turn around and imply.. well the physical end is not coming but there will be a spiritual awakening, whatever. YOu know what I mean.

WTH? Why would that even NEED saying? WHat even implies something like that is going to happen? Where in the world does anything imply such a 'spiritual' awakening?

Truth be told, I have never ever seen any such thing. Nothing in history to me has implied such a thing has ever even happened.

Each culture has their belief system, with time when travel becomes better, belief systems jump cultural lines and become absorbed into other cultural beliefs, et et, but in the end, no 'awakening' has happened, just a learning of one another.

With experience, maturity is supposed to happen, growth is supposed to happen, that is normal and the way of things in our species.

December 21 will come and go, no great ending of anything other then the end of 'december 21, 2012', the only spiritual awakening there will be is going to come from those expecting something, getting nothing, and having to fall back on something.

Thus the great spiritual awakening will happen *rolls eyes on that one*

I do not mean to sound mean about it, but what is wrong with just saying 'nothing is going to happen, other then the next day some of us are going to have a laugh on it all and then eagerly look forward to the next great doomsday prediction'.

What is wrong with just saying 'nothing much is going to happen'

Why this addendum of 'some spiritual thing'?

Meh...same old stuff. Many people are so filled with misery and despair, they are willing this to happen.

Let's be honest here. We actually do have many "bad things" confronting us today. Poisoning our water supplies, deforestation, air pollution, not to mention the more localized things like the Fukishima reactor, the Gulf oil spill...etc...etc...etc. Are any of these things extinction level events or planet killers? No, I doubt it. That, however, does not mean they will not cause suffering to the point that people will pray for death.

We have areas of the world where slavery still exists. We have areas of the world where famine is rampant. Certain diseases are becoming resistant to treatment. We have wars and rumors of wars...we have earthquakes in diverse places...hmmm...where have I heard that line before?

My point?

If you let things eat at you, yeah...there is plenty of misery to justify hoping for a wipe-out or reboot. I think that is what most people hope for...a "do over". We have done some things astoundingly well and have advanced at exponential levels...but we have had a s-load of collateral damage along the way.

I personally am not hoping for an end. I sure do wish we as a species could get our shiz together and behave like...erm...human beings. We are supposed to be stewards of this world...you know...keeping it in decent shape for the next renters...but we are doing a crappy job of that.

I can fully understand why some folks long for "doom"...from one point of view, it appears there is no way to fix a broken system but to throw it away and start over...and because few people are going to go that route...cataclysm is seen as the only reset switch. A knock back to the stone age...

Nothing is going to end anytime soon...and sadly...that includes the end of suffering and despair...

Anyway...I'm off to watch the "doom porn marathon" on National Geographic channel...lmao...might be worth a laugh or two (Starts at 7:00 pm EST)

Selective reading. Perhaps then you better read the article next time.
