monk 56 Posted March 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2013 If you were Indiana Jones, where would you like to dig and excavate? I would like to excavate the tomb of the First Emperor of China, legend says that he created his kingdom in miniature, and all the rivers were mercury, and recent tests bear this out as the whole hill is contaminated with mercury, so perhaps a job for "Indiana Jones Asimo" as it looks like only a robot could do it safely ha ha! It must be a fantastic feeling to excavate an untouched tomb that hasn't been broken open by tomb robbers! http://www.livescience.com/22454-ancient-chinese-tomb-terracotta-warriors.html So if you were Indiana Jones, where would you like to dig?? Jinxdom Posted March 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2013 I would have to do all of them. I'd start with the wonders of the world and do my own personal research. That one you mentioned would also be right on top of this list but I'm not sure personally on how to deal with it. I'd most likely end up on the run from the Chinese Governmen; like Indy did from the Nazi. I would also have to look in to places that are mostly untouched by modern civilization. Kind of hard to put a name on something that hasn't been discovered yet though. I'd most likely gravitate towards where it's colder so most likely the deepest, most hostile parts of Siberia, looking for those dark cave that might hide some long last temple that nobody else dared to go out and look for. Knowing my luck though, I'd end up discovering a new mutated bear that eats my face instead.
monk 56 Posted March 2, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted March 2, 2013 Hi Jinxdom, i love your humour, i must admit i loved the part when when Hitler signed Indiana Jones's notebook it nearly made me wet my pants ha ha! So i add to this tongue in cheek! There is a humerous flavour to this thread, perhaps Steven Spielberg found information for Indiana Jones by way of Roy Chapman Andrews, links below:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Chapman_Andrews Notice the Indiana Jones hat on link below:- http://historyofgeology.fieldofscience.com/2011/06/roy-chapman-andrews-and-kingdom-of.html Please note i laugh with these important people NOT AT THEM! I hate boring drab scientists i like them zany and funny, i learn more when i laugh, i love time team, but partly because Mick Aston never changes his multi- coloured pull-over, and Phil Aston thinks he is Indiana Jones with "THE HAT" ha ha! http://www.channel4.com/programmes/time-team/articles/meet-the-time-team I'm a serious astronomer, i laughed and respected the late Sir Patrick Moore, he made me learn as he was so ZANY AND FUNNY, i loved his monocle, three cheers for the zany scientists they make life more colourful ha ha! http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4689161/sir-patrick-moore-has-died-age-89.html

monk 56 Posted March 3, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted March 3, 2013 Hi Freetoroam, It must be noted my special interest is Archaeoastronomy not Archaeology, so some may doubt why i write here in humour, but the world needs humour, until i was disabled i was a member of ASH, the patron was Sir Arthur C. Clarke, the President was Frederick W. Clarke, his brother, Sir Patrick Moore is missed by astronomers, his B.B.C. programme lasted 55 years, being "The Sky at Night", a world record....he was so zany and funny but made us all learn, i loved his monocle, perhaps a dinosaur from the Victorian age, but i loved him all the same! http://2012forum.com/forum/download/file.php?id=5130&mode=view
White Unicorn Posted March 3, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 3, 2013 I'm with Monk tomb of the First Emperor of China, also southern caves of France, Biblical mountain areas, and of course Egypt and antartica would also be on the list but the weather would keep me away! redhen Posted March 3, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 3, 2013 If you were Indiana Jones, where would you like to dig and excavate? Under the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. What could possibly go wrong?
pallidin Posted March 3, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 3, 2013 Unfortunately, the most potentially interesting dig-sites are under government control.
monk 56 Posted March 4, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) Hi White Unicorn, I see you mention Egypt, doesn't it make you go cold about the early attempts to find secret passages in the pyramids, in the 1830's Richard Vyse blew holes in Cheops by dynamite, what was he thinking??? http://en.wikipedia....iam_Howard_Vyse Hi Red Hen, You have more chance of a rocking horse winning the Grand National than any excavating under the Dome of the Rock, which leads me to Pallidin's comments, being English both Red Hen and Pallidin's comments give me cause for embarrassment, it has to be said that the Palestine Mandate wasn't English politics greatest hour, we had promised the same thing to both Jews and Arabs! This wasn't helped by the appointment of Hubert Samuel as Commissioner, hardly a neutral appointment, sadly Arabs have long memories, and Palestine continues to be a bloody place sadly. Although Archaeology rules have to be adhered to, i fail to see the importance of this being mentioned under Article 21 on link below, i would have thought the birth of a nation far more important! http://en.wikisource...lestine_Mandate I'm not trying to make this political, we all know the Mandate was a mistake to say the least, and Indiana Jones would love to dig in the Middle East, fat chance of that, ha ha! IBelieveWhatIWant Posted March 4, 2013 #14 Share Posted March 4, 2013 I'd have to pick The Money Pit on Oak Island. It has always intrigued me for some reason.
monk 56 Posted March 4, 2013 Author #15 Share Posted March 4, 2013 Hi IBelieveWhatIWant, Yes the Money Pit is very mysterious, although i wouldn't speculate what it hides! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VH3hZ5EE-c Indeed you don't have to go to Oak Island to find a mysterious money pit, you will find one at your local bank ha ha!
