Manama: A man in Saudi Arabia charged with slapping his wife was sentenced to 10 days in prison and 30 lashes.

The court in Al Qateef in the Eastern Province said that the wife could witness the flogging in retribution for the physical pain her husband caused her, Saudi daily Al Sharq reported on Wednesday.

The husband will also have to take part in special sessions on marriage counseling and on how to treat and deal with spouses, the judge ruled.

According to the court documents, the wife, in her 30s, filed the case after her husband slapped her on the face during an argument.

you only see woman got killed by her father or husband etc etc etc

but you don't get the news of their punishment

i think it's important to lighten the dark minds

that simple act like slap gotten this punishment .. imagin murder " under any circumstances " except self defense of course

if their mothers raised them well they won't turn out to be murderers

having a mother does not earn sympathy for criminals .. my opinion

I see the point you're making and you're right that I won't see anyone else posting that story here. But I also see is a government that's so punitive it contradicts itself. He might want to get a better legal team because if his wife spent too much money or flirted with another man before he slapped her, he'll be out of jail in no time and she'll be the one behind bars.

Well that is refreshing, I hope it made headline news there too - and that women felt encouraged to stand up for their rights as a result. That is one brave woman, she could make a difference for many by standing for what is right, good for her.

I liked that story.. Regardless of the domestic situation, it should NEVER be OK to slap anyone.. Violence is not the answer...

Yeah. I've never ever heard of a middle eastern country punnishing men for anything,let alone doing something bad to a woman .

I disagree. There are situations where one should have the right to slap someone, e.g. self defense. But of course, that is not the case here.

Public beheading, sometimes with the crucifixion of the beheaded body.

It also uses the "Eye for an eye" quantity of justice or "Qisas". I thought this particular case strange with regards to this, as 30 lashes are hardly proportionate violence to a slap. Killing someone who murdered would be applicable however.

in my country alone there is town of same name in 3 or 4 different states

the decision will rest in hands of family of the victim

they can eaither choose to have justice done upon the muderer .. " beheading "

unless they choosed a money ransom paid to them by the murderer

and serving less severe punishment . probably prison and lashes

Depends on the kick skill. If he does it right he can play forward for the national soccer team.

Anyway, contrary to what non muslims believe and what some muslims unfortunately do, it is forbiden to beat your wife according to the Quran. However, one can slap his wife only so hard that it not leaves any marks. By that it means rather a push then a hit. Hard to explain, I know.
