Boy, 7, hit by meteorite fragments?

The odds are astronomical, but 7-year-old Steven Lippard and his dad are convinced the boy was struck by pebbles from a meteorite Saturday while playing outside.

Steven has a gash -- stitched up with three staples -- on his head to prove it. Initial testing at Florida Atlantic University indicates the little stones -- pea sized and smaller -- are metallic, a good sign they came from space. Other testing supports the meteorite theory.

I'm surprised it does not happen more often, I know the odds for an individual getting struck are said to be astronomical, but when you consider the entire population of the planet the odds of someone getting hit once in a while, is it really astronomical?

This site says the odds of being killed by a Asteroid/Comet Impact are 1 in 250,000 for people living in the US. and the odds of being killed by Food Poisoning by Botulism at 1 in 3,000,000. I never would have guessed that!

I guess the odds are greatly reduced too while playing outside in the place it is falling. Same odds as NOT being hit if you happen to be in its vicinity.
