'Ghost' crosses pitch during football game

Footage of a ghostly figure on the pitch during the German Cup final in Berlin has gone viral.

Sightings of apparitions during televised sporting events seem to be on the rise lately with April's sighting of a strange shadow moving across the stands at a Bolivian football match making way for a similar sighting at this week's cup final in Berlin.

Having watched this I think it's an internal reflection in the camera. If you watch it follows the same movements at the same time as the player who seems to be running towards it. A technical fault and nothing more.

Yep, looks like a reversed image (reflection) of the player in yellow who crosses the center line at the 2 second mark...

That's what I thought too but then I watched it three more times and it does not do the same thing as the player.

What do you suggest it is oversword amd how do you come to that conclusion? I should point out that I am a film maker who has worked for the bbc and oscar winning producer David Puttnam and IMO it's a bog standard reflection.

Sports broadcasts like that have many layers of video that are shown simultaneously. The primary image, score graphics, ads, PiP, enhancements for field markings, and the telestrator all contribute to the final product. It is entirely possible that a layer was diffused and presented in error. Depending on how the camera was situated, there is also the possibility of a reflection off of glass or the lens itself.

Fascinating video, loved it...however, I would agree with 'sinewave' on this one.

I don't suggest it's anything, but if you watch closely it does not duplicate the movements of the player that it is the supposed reflection of. close but not quite.

Edit to add once they have crossed each others paths there is a large difference in movement.

It could have been from another camera in another part of the stadium. Any camera or graphics device can be used to assemble the final image. This was probably a mistake by the guys in the "truck".

It doesn't follow the same path as the player on the right, it moves faster and at a different angle.

Dang truck guys! If they panned they could have clearly seen it was a raptor.

They were too busy watching the game. A nude woman could have appeared and they would not have noticed unless she was carrying beer and sandwiches.

It's obviously a former player who misses the game....

the Bolivian ghost and The Berlin are the same ghost, somehow someone has edited the Bolivian of a real fan and sped his walking speed. In the Berlin ghost, its the same one, however it has been angled and further edited. This kinda like a ghost app and tried to make it realistic. The fans spooked in the Bolivian one, was probably a caption title from the uploaded and no doubt the person who edited and re imaged the image. if anything, this is like the "giant dog" that runs across the motorway. I think this is all done by an editing program of some sort.

Probably some poor ignorant soul confused about pitch at a football game and trying not to look too obvious.

I thought that looked familiar. You could be right.

You don't need to be a video specialist to see that it is some kind of reflection or shadow of the player coming into the shot on the right, freeze frame it and you can see that the shadow matches up with the player until he enters the center of the camera where the shadow disappears.

Nope, look carefully and pay more attention, it doesn't "match" up...it may seem like it when you casually view the video, but it is not the case.

I do not get how no one on the pitch or beside it seems to have noticed it and once again, bit blurry. Can not even see the players faces that well.

Will go with the reflection.

I watched it 5 times, freeze framed it 3 times, if I wanted to take the time I would edit the video to copy/paste the shadow on the left, put a reverse or mirror image modifier on that section of video and then play it over the person who comes running into the frame from the right. When the player is running the shadow runs, when the player slows down the shadow slows down. Even more... freeze frame it at every step the shadow and player take, look at the shape of the legs and shoulders of the shadow, then look at the player entering the shot on the right. EXACT MATCH! Furthermore, notice how when the player is out of the camera shot the shadow looks very dark and you can make out everything, the closer the player gets to the center of the camera shot the thinner the shadow gets until the player is nearly in the center of the shot and the shadow is completely gone. Think about it, why would the shadow and the person be running exactly towards each other in a mirrored state. Even furthermore there are only 3 steps throughout the entire video that don't "match up" which is basically the same cause of the mirrored state ie. the player's orientation changing and shadow shape changes between those 3 orientation changes, which is his shoulders pivoting looking back and forth across the field.

Also trust me I've been living with ghosts and entities my entire life, I am not just skeptic I'm analytical, that was not a ghost whatsoever, just a trick of a camera lens and the field lights that illuminate the field...
