'Killer slugs' set to take over gardens

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

After the worst year on record for slugs, things are about to get even worse with millions of a new species of ‘killer slug’ expected to take over gardens this spring.

The monster slugs, from Spain, that can grow up to five inches long, have been found eating dead mice, dog mess and even each other.

The species have already caused havoc in Scandinavia where slugs feasting on road kill caused so much slime it became a road hazard.

Could'nt they spread salt around the outside perimeter of their gardens.

I used to enjoy doing that at my grandparents' house when I was a kid.

They used to grow strawberries in one of their three gardens so, obviously, they didn't like pests such as slugs getting to them. So whenever I saw a slug in the strawberry patch I used to run into the house and ask my grandmother for some salt. I then enjoyed pouring the salt on the slug and watching it shrivel up.
