500-year-old 'Bedlam' asylum graveyard found

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

A 500-year-old graveyard containing the bones of mental patients from the original 'Bedlam' asylum has been discovered under the City of London during excavations for the new Crossrail train line.

Thousands of Londoners were laid to rest at the burial ground but modern-day residents passing in and out of Liverpool Street station have had no idea of the history lying beneath their feet - until now.

The way those unfortunate people were treated throughout history is a shame...

My Ma worked 26 years in a state mental institution in a nearby city .. so i heard lots of stories about the place. Pharmaceutical 'restraints' became the norm for unruly patients.

droooool

* i did a lot of painting work there a few times, In white shirt and pants.. one lady patient always said ... " Goodmorning Dr. " lol

Another overturned my shopping cart full of paints etc.!

I once saw a painting of Bedlam inmates. Not a place you'd want to go for mental health treatment...
