Luckily, I'm Scottish so I usually catch food, or money, before it hits the floor.

I thought most people wash or wipe off food that's dropped, unless it sticky; in which case it gets thrown away. The article did not seem to address this.
If a drop an apple, I always wash it afterwards. And I've dropped a biscuit- I just brush it off with my hands.

My Grandfather had a saying..."What doesn't fatten, will fill!"

I firmly believe we've become too 'cleanliness - obssessed', which is giving rise to the increase in incidences of child asthma and allergies, because their natural immune systems are not being allowed to develop. I'm not advocating eating dirty food, but the modern trend to sanitize every conceivable surface, nook and cranny in our homes may be self-defeating in the long run.

"Gæð a wyrd swa hio scel, ac gecnáwan þín gefá!": "Fate goes ever as she shall, but know thine enemy!".
I can teach you with a quip, if I've a mind; I can trick you into learning with a laugh; Oh, winnow all my folly and you'll find, A grain or two of truth among the chaff!

Back on topic...

Depends on how dirty it looks once retrieved and how hungry you are, imo.

A bigger question is how much money was spent on this?

Doesn't this also depend on how dirty the floor is?

I eat off the floor if it's a tasty treat.  But if it's something like cake that's moist, I'm a bit more apprehensive.  Not saying that I won't EVER do it but I'm also gross.

Dropped on my floor...I'd probably go ahead and eat it.

Dropped anywhere else...Hell no.

May I borrow your steam mop?

Sure, if you're willing to schlep from Arizona to Massachusetts. :)  Probably be cheaper to just go on QVC and buy one of your own though.

But in going to QVC I miss out on meeting the lovely Lilly.  Not sure there's much of real choice here now is there? ;)

Aww...thanks, but I'm probably a lot like your Mother in reality!

This truly made me laugh.  Unless you're a meth addicted woman who allows men to beat her children I doubt it.

I'd prefer a daily steam mopper friend!

I'm very sorry to hear this. I sincerely hope that someday your Mother will receive some type of help that allows her to overcome her addiction.

When one hears about this type of issue, dropping food on the floor seems extremely inconsequential.

Eh, it was a long time ago and it's taught me how to be a much better person and to be a much better mother to my babies.  One thing I can say for sure, although absent much of the time, my mother taught me many things...all of which were what not to do and who not to be.  Gotta love her for that much I suppose.  She refuses to seek help and as a consequence has destroyed all relations with her whole family.  I miss who she was when she was sober.  Thank you for the kind words however and fortunately for myself, I'm almost thiry and it is no longer an issue.  Just wish my angels had a grandmother.

Anyhooooo, back to the subject.  I won't eat pixy stix I spill on the floor.  I feel licking them up is going too far.  Although, I really like pixy stix.  Hmmm, maybe...
