Prove 2 + 2 = 5.

2 + 2 = 4, right?

No, not in all cases.

2 (beers) + 2 (ciggerates) = 5 (bad smelling sticky room)

Ok, I couldn't think of anything 'witty', but you get what I'm on about...

But no # is equal to that #. Pi (3.14 etc.) never stops.

2 (way way way (a few trillion decimal places)) has to equal like 2.000000000000000000000000000000000001 or somethin' similar; sense nothing in this world (humans created it, and we arn't perfect) is perfect, that has to be the case.

It may not be 5, but certainly not 4.

What he means is that it doesn't perfectly equal four. If that's not true, I'm lost like everyone else.

well, speaking for myself, if what you are saying is what he in fact meant, Yelikiah, I can't see why 2+2 would equal anything other then 4; but then, since I work with numbers all day, that's probably because of what I know and was taught.

This problem has plagued my mind for years. We are taught that 2=2, and is always a perfect number(e.g. in decimal form it would be 2.000000000000000000 Repeating). Of course, in the real world, when it comes to measuring length, time, angles, etc., it will never be exactly 2. It will be like 2.000000387438947389473892743892489732894, or similar. When it comes to 2 quarters+ 2 quarters, however, you can physically count 4 quarters there, without much more help than a finger. There won't be 4.00000000428492814928281492 quarters there, just 4 original.gif

BTW, Pharaoh, your example didn't make much sense huh.gif Please enlighten us on how you got 5 thumbsup.gif

He didn't get five. He wants us to prove it's five.

When he can prove that the chair he sits in doesn't exist, I'll prove 2+2= 5 yes.gif

what chair? tongue.gif

so, if i would say 2 and a half + 2 and a half = 5, would that explain his initial post?

I don't know what your 'on about' ...but I do understand that you are 'on' something.

If you have exactly 2 apples and someone gives you exactly 2 more apples...you have exactly 4 apples....

......ignorance is not bliss........it is just downright frightful....

being the curious person that I am, I googled "2+2=5" and got a few hits...

http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/science/60f5/ <-posting that one because of the "Radiohead song" reference which I found pretty amusing...

http://www.wpri.org/WIInterest/Vol10No1/Vukmir10.1.pdf <--in pdf format, but an interesting read...

None of us are exactly sure what Phaoah means but we are leaning towards it's relation to pi and "perfect" numbers.

Pi has no relationship to the equation 2+2=4. blink.gif

If you have exactly 2 tillion grains of sand...you have exactly 2 trillion grains of sand.

Are you actually trying to make sense of what he said? blink.gif
