questionmark Posted September 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2007 Turkish intelligence assisted IDF in attack on Syria – report Kuwaiti newspaper says Turkish intelligence provided Israel with information on targets Air Force allegedly attacked last week without Turkish government's authorization Roee Nahmias Published: 09.13.07, 16:11 / Israel News Turkish intelligence provided Israel with information on the Syrian targets allegedly attacked by the Air Force last week without the Turkish government's authorization, Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jareeda reported Thursday. Al-Jareeda quoted several sources as saying that Israel and senior Turkish military personnel coordinated Israel's invasion of Turkish airspace during the operation to send a message to the ruling Justice and Development party, or AKP. Senior military officials in Turkey, most of whom are secular, oppose the Islamist party's platform. According to the sources, AKP member and newly-elected President Abdullah Gul is not doing enough to prevent the transfer of arms from Iran to terror groups in Syria and Lebanon via Turkey. However, the London-based Arabic newspaper al-Sharq al-Awsat reported that IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi refused to take a call from his Turkish counterpart, who asked for clarifications on the attack. Birmingham Posted September 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2007 I don't put much stock in the story. However Turkey and Syria does have some outstanding problems. Mostly over the stip of coastal land Turkey bought from France when France had contol over Syria. Which is still maked on Syrian maps as part of Greater Syria. Along with a lot of other peoples property, ie Lebanon. So it may be that Turkey wants to insure a weak Syria that may not be a threat in the future. This story of an Israeli air attack on Syria is a strange one. No one is saying much, even the Syrians. Who in the past have screamed about any Israeli violation, real or imagined. With Syria not showing the bomb damage, the BBC website last night was wondering if Syria got cought with their hands in the cookie jar. And are too embarrassed to show exactly what the target (if there was a target) was.
