How come, when I use a, b, c, that b changes?

Now, I presume it has something to do with how the letter b next to ) becomes an emoticon?

The English language makes no sense, b's being interpreted as smiley faces is just one instance of it's countless exceptions and inconsistencies.

Let me test a few variations:

That seems to be because it's the internet shorthand thing for that sunglasses smilie. It does add a touch of humour when someone's making some long, trenchant post that includes enumerating a list, to have in the middle of it. I've asked before whether it might not be possible to change it or disable it, but I think it comes with the software that this board uses, if I recall.

I think you can disable emotimojicons somewhere, but it's a bit of a pain to have to remember to do that each time.

I presume that it still applies even if you quote something, that you have to deselect the "Disable emotimojicons" box.

No wonder no one can be bothered to do it.

Yes. you need to put a space between the b and the ) otherwise it will appear as the emoticon.

For example: without a space, and b ) with a space.

The same thing applies with without a space, and B ) with a space.

To avoid it showing as an emoticon, you must add a space.
