Toxic-2-be Posted July 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2014 The Bertha Tunnel Project Mystery for those who have not followed or heard about this still has more questions than answers. For one thing on the news they said Bertha was tunneling blindly and hit an object. Now they are saying that they have the ability to see which a million dollar project should have to see what there digging into. When I got on their site they were talking about drilling samples about 60 of them while Bertha was stalled and they had the Reservation and Indian Reservation with a contract with Archaeologist to take responsibility to stall's that occur and financially take responsibility for. This was on their site and now its gone and nothing comes up on the subject. So I think it is safe to say, what were they doing and where can we find out the sample results? I doubt it has to do with a ufo but the president did declare war practically on alien life forms so maybe they are preparing with extra tunneling for the government. MissMelsWell Posted July 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2014 I live in Seattle...it's no mystery what-so-ever...it hit a big pipe, broke some parts, and now it's stuck under our waterfront and the people here are VERY VERY VERY mad since no one wanted this giant stupid drill under the waterfront in the first place! What a flippin' MESS. They should have just rebuilt the viaduct.
Erowin Posted July 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 21, 2014 I'm also from Seattle- MissMe is right. It hit some pipes that everyone forgot had been put down years before. It's delayed the progress and made the project a big mess in terms of time and money.
Insanity Posted December 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2014 An recent blog about the project. Found it somewhat humorous. http://grist.org/cities/seattles-unbelievable-transportation-megaproject-fustercluck/ The massive machine cranks up and jams its enormous snout into the earth, tearing fiercely through rock, soil, and seawater, leaving all the world in awestruck wonder. For a minute, anyway. Then, a thousand feet in — one-tenth of the way through its journey — it grinds to a halt. Bertha has no reverse gear. There’s no way to back it out. The repairs have to be done in situ, which means Seattle Tunnel Partners has to dig a 120-foot hole to reach the machine. (It’s pure luck Bertha didn’t get stuck beneath a building, if “luck” is the right word here.) New York Times article linked in the blog http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/10/us/in-seattle-a-sinking-feeling-about-a-troubled-tunnel.html?_r=1 Ancient Egypt endured plagues of locusts. Seattle has its tunnel, which over the last year has featured a series of setbacks and fiascos that, depending on one’s outlook, can be the setup for a punch line, or an eye-rolling narrative of put-upon endurance. In the latest blow, project engineers said this week that 30 or more buildings in the historic Pioneer Square area — a staging area for Klondike gold rush miners heading north to Alaska in the late 1800s and now one of the city’s premier tourist stops — had unexpectedly settled, possibly because of water pumping related to the project. From NPR http://www.npr.org/2014/12/10/369777033/bertha-the-giant-borer-that-broke-may-be-sinking-seattles-downtown And a year ago this week, Bertha came to a grinding halt. That would be Bertha, the nickname for the world's largest tunneling machine that was boring a new highway tunnel under Seattle's downtown. As NPR's Martin Kaste reports, Bertha's breakdown last December has led to a gigantic, new problem for the city.
