Still Waters Posted October 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2014 The decoding of the Phaistos Disk has puzzled specialists for over a century, however new findings describe the disk as "the first Minoan CD-ROM" featuring a prayer to a mother. Gareth Owens, Erasmus coordinator at the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Crete, speaking at the TEI of Western Macedonia on Monday, said the disk is dedicated to a "mother". http://archaeologyne...ml#.VEq3g2eg4dU

+DieChecker Posted October 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) Sounds like they are getting close to solving this mysterious object. It looks very much like something a kid might make, with a spiral, and imprints from some kind of tokens, or stamps. It seems there have been lots of claims of deciphering the disk. http://en.wikipedia....pherment_claims EDIT: A related object... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkalochori_Axe Edited October 25, 2014 by DieChecker

bubblykiss Posted October 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 25, 2014 I am sticking to my theory that the Phaistos Disk is a cookie mold that we have assigned too much meaning to by virtue of its great age.

Bendy Demon Posted October 26, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I am sticking to my theory that the Phaistos Disk is a cookie mold that we have assigned too much meaning to by virtue of its great age. While it is pretty neat looking I have to agree that perhaps we are attaching way too much signifigance to this piece of clay. For all we know it could just be a childs toy or something a potter used. it just looks like a large biscuit to me ... Geeze, thanks a lot. Now I'm hungry again. Hanslune Posted October 26, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 26, 2014 It may have been a game or gift made by a child for a parent or grandparent. It may have been inspired by an Egyptian Mehen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehen_%28game%29

docyabut2 Posted October 26, 2014 #18 Share Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) It must have been of importance to be in a palace of Crete , maybe a tribute to the Phoenician princesses that was abducted and married by the Greek God Zeus. http://www.phoenicia.org/europa.html Edited October 26, 2014 by docyabut2
highdesert50 Posted October 27, 2014 #19 Share Posted October 27, 2014 Interesting how the spiral and embedded symbols convey both information and a sense of time or movement. This seeming multidimensional characteristic provides layers of information that could greatly enhance the story-telling, providing "emotion" that the symbols may not so effectively convey. Aisling Posted October 30, 2014 #23 Share Posted October 30, 2014 Hmm...so with references to pregnancy and birth...is there possibly ones of death? I mean, it does has a spiral on it, and in some ancient cultures a spiral was a symbol of rebirth, of reincarnation. Maybe that's what this is? A record of reincarnations? kmt_sesh Posted November 1, 2014 #25 Share Posted November 1, 2014 Here's a decent article on why Owens's "translation" of the artifact is unlikely: Phaistos Disk Deciphered? Not Likely, Say Scholars Owens is a legitimate historian but just another in a long line who've "successfully translated" the disk down through the years. There are valid and well-understood reasons that the disk, at least at present, cannot be deciphered at all.
