(to those of you who celebrate it) secondly, whether or not you celebrate thanksgiving, i thought it would be a nice idea to post what you're thankful for. we all need a reminder every now and then as to what the good things in our lives are. so please feel free to tell us what you are thankful for! i'm thankful for: shelter, food, and clothing my mom and sisters (even though they can be annoying) my friends my fantastic boyfriend my pets (love them to death- don't know what i'd do without them) life in general and love now it's your turn. I work as a Chef at a Golf Resort and I usually have to carve the Turkeys and Hams for all the members, so a Thanksgiving Day off is pretty hard to come by in my business. Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year in the States. Many people look forward to the day after Thanksgiving(Black Friday) because a lot of shops have huge sales. The bad part is that most shops have a time limit on the sales, usually starting around 5 am and ending about 11 am. Black Friday is the biggest sales day of the year. Black Friday , the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is historically one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year. Many consider it the "official" beginning to the holiday season. Most retailers will open very early. The origin of the term is disputed. One idea is that employees of retail stores gave this day the name as a spoof of the various black days of the Wall Street Crash of 1929. The day can be extremely stressful and frightening, not only for employees themselves, but for the business owners in a “make or break” situation for sales during the holiday season. As employees increasingly refered to the day this way, the nickname stuck and began to be used by more and more people. Another theory is it marks the day many retailers are thought to become profitable, going from "the red," to "the black;" hence the name. Yet another theory holds that the term 'Black Friday' originates from those opposed to Capitalism, and is a means to decry what the socialists and communists believe to be excesses in a free market society. Buy Nothing Day is used as a protest against the sales which occur on this day. Although Black Friday is typically the busiest shopping day of the year in terms of customer traffic, it is not typically the day with the highest sales volume.
