All countries are police states if they have police and army, and even more so if they have un-uniformed investigating agencies.

The way most people distinguish a country like the States from a real police state is, first, whether the police are under civilian control, whether prosecution and judgment are independent of police decisions, whether there is civilian investigation of police misbehavior, whether police misbehavior is even punished, and whether police must follow procedures like getting warrants and having "reasonable cause," and so on.

The police do seem to get by with a lot here.

Given the fact that the original poster has removed the content of their first post their would seem to be no point in keeping this topic open.
