Biden, Bloomberg try again on guns 6 months after Newtown

Vice President Joe Biden is renewing his push for gun-control legislation with an event slated for Tuesday, marking the first time the White House has held an event on guns since its legislative push for background checks failed in the Senate in April.

A Biden aide declined to give any details about the event, which was first reported by Politico.

"The commitment of this president and the vice president to taking action to reduce gun violence is as strong today as it was at the beginning of the year and in the wake of Newtown," White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters on Wednesday.

The failed bipartisan bill—crafted by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa.—would have extended background checks to all commercial gun purchases, preventing people with criminal records from buying guns online. President Barack Obama called its failure "shameful" and vowed to continue the fight for the legislation; though, since then the White House has remained largely silent on the issue. It's unlikely that the Republican-controlled House would ever support a similar measure.

I can't believe these guys...

With all the scandals, with the NSA spying on American Citizens, and the IRS targeting political groups, and they expect us to "trust" them to have a National Gun Registry?? I don't think so.

Like a badly written soap opera these days.

Hope for the future is dim.

If at first you don't succeed try try again. I thought they would so something like this. Democrats and Republicans alike will keep on trying to get something passed until they wear everyone down enough they get it passed. If that don't work they will stick it on with a bill that they know everyone is for and get it passed that way.

I don't think people with criminal records or spent time in a mental institution should be allowed to buy a gun anywhere.

They can't. If you buy a gun online, it is shipped to a reputable gun dealer, where you have to fill out the necessary paperwork and go through a background check.

Yeah .Bloomberg is appealing the soda ban reversal again this month . New hurricane laws are all on the table.

Waiting to see how he screws the victims again . I heard something like, people in the prime flood zone areas, will have to,by law, raise their houses up by something like 2-3 meters .

I don't know if this will be for just new property being built ,or existing houses ,but rockaway and Coney island are on the direct hitlist on the map ..

Like all houses within 4 blocks of the shore.

Living on the Gulf Coast I understand the need for rules about housing but I think government intervention should end where government responsibility ends. If a citizen expects his neighbors to pay to have his home on the beach rebuilt then he should have to meet their requirements for living there. On the other hand, if he is going to pay for it himself either out of pocket or through outrageous insurance premiums then he should be able to tell the government to sod off! After Katrina the cost of insuring homes on the beach was so exorbitant that almost the only one's who could afford it were businesses.

Do you know,in nyc ,if a water pipe blows ,under the street ,in front of your home ,despite being city property ,you have to pay for the repairs ?

One woman was on the news saying the city expected her to foot the 55,000 repair bill for city property .

the problem is that you aNd others like you have no clue what they are talking about. or intentionaly spread lies.

you can not buy a gun online without it being sent to FFL dealer, that must run a background check on you.

THE LIES THAT YOU AND LIKES OF YOU SPREAD THAT YOU CAN BUY ONLINE LEGALY NO QUESTIONS ASKED, IS NOTING BUT A LIE.

GUESS WHAT IT MAKES YOU.

Just the fact that people with criminal records can't buy a gun online now. Why pass another law to prevent them from doing something they already can't do?

How would a background check have prevented what happened at Newtown, again?
