Saru Posted July 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2012 The Royal Armouries museum obtained the box containing everything you need to fight vampires. The 19th Century box, containing a crucifix, pistols, wooden stakes and a mallet, was sold for £7,500 at an auction in North Yorkshire on Friday. lizzieboo Posted July 3, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Thank you for sharing the article. That is fascinating! I'd love to get a closer look at it. And, because I'm an inveterate wisenheimer, I have to wonder: Was the woman who inherited it named Buffy?
Rafterman Posted July 3, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Very cool - I bet there would be a huge market for a modern version of that today.
Junior Chubb Posted July 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2012 (edited) Very cool - I bet there would be a huge market for a modern version of that today. I think you are right there. The initial estimate was £2,000 and it went for £7,500. Vampires have always been popular in modern culture and media with an extra surge recently. Glad its gone to a museum rather than a private collection. That is fascinating! I'd love to get a closer look at it. Xanthurion2 Posted July 5, 2012 #12 Share Posted July 5, 2012 That wasn't the gamblers box with the gun hidden inside was it? no it was just a vampire slaying kit. it even came with a mirror to make sure the vampire didn't have a reflection. i don't think they bought it. it was the halloween episode. I will look out for that episode, its a good show. I like it when the customers can't figure out that the buyers still need to make a profit on the items they buy. For example, man brings in antique rifle, expert comes in and values rifle at $10,000. Pawn shop owner asks how much the customer wants for it and he says........ $10,000 Then he can't understand why he gets offered $6,000.

rashore Posted July 5, 2012 #15 Share Posted July 5, 2012 Heh, I remember that episode of Pawn Stars.. They didn't buy the kit because even though it looked great, it really wasn't, er, authentic. They made an offer on the gun in the kit because that was actually interesting, but it was a no sale.

Eldorado Posted July 19, 2012 #17 Share Posted July 19, 2012 I hope for the museum's sake Van Helsing doesn't notice it's gone. He's prone to leaving a helluva mess when he's looking for something.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the lady who inherited the box found journals written by the original owner? I would love to have a glimpse into the mind of a man who owned such a thing.
