Reid ties GOP health care opposition

Caesar

Recommended Posts

"Washington » Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid equated Republican attempts to delay health reform to politicians who argued against ending slavery or giving women the right to vote.

"All Republicans can come up with is this: Slow down, stop everything and start over. If you think you have heard these same excuses before, you are right," Reid said on the Senate floor Monday. "When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said, 'Slow down, it is too early, let's wait. Things are not bad enough.' "

Republicans immediately called foul.

"Now that is offensive language. Harry is a friend, but he shouldn't have used that language," Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said on Fox News. "It is offensive, unnecessary, really a slap in the face to all Republicans."

Nor most of his co-horts in both houses of congress. When they can't win the argument they resort to name calling. Look at Nancy Pelosi...a piece of work... :D

Democrats makes a claim to be the champion against slavery and racism, as we can see they simply use it to advance any agenda they have.

They remind everyone of it and try to make it like we are still in those era, it's them really who can't let it go. It's a tool for them and nothing else.

It not a tool for us. We are what the republicans party used to be, before ya'll went crazy. I have tried and to explain that so many time it is not funny.

It true the GOP has been opposed to this bill from the gecko, because it could be popular. In other words, they want it scrubbed,, so we wont vote democrat in the next election. They will do anything in their power to stop it.

To the woman thing,

For example, look at how many woman are Republican senators? Their are four woman senators that are Republicans. Look at the 30 senators who voted against Al Frank Rape bill they were all were Republican by the way. I find it funny you can't see that. Look at the sexist ads that are running against Rep. ® Sown who is a woman by the way.

Rep Killory actually we should be put in our place, if we were democratic party women

If a man had tried this their would have been a up roar, but I guess it ok for a woman to say that Ann Coulter also came out against woman right to vote Calling it a big mistake. and she is a woman.

Nope. Throughout the 1900s, the Democrats fought tooth and nail to deny blacks the rights they deserve. It was the Republicans who fought for black civil rights. Even MLK was a registered Republican.

Why do you keep trying PI ... they do not understand the language of logic or history. All they understand at this point in time is hate and slander.

By the way and sorry for off topic but did anyone catch Obamas new opinion poll. Only 47 percent approve his leadership at this time. The lowest support for any president at this point. Americas waking up folks!!!

No Ryinrea both Democrates and Republicans are wimps and liars. Republicans tried for their own version of health care a few years back but it was defeated by .. guess who? .. The dems in congress.

I bashed the hell out of Bush in his term and will do the same with Obama and especially Nancy Pelosi.

They can dish it out but cant take it???? ... ARE YOU FOR REAL?? HAVE YOU PAYED ANY ATTENTION TO THE CRAP THE REPUBLICANS HAVE TAKEN IN HE PAST FEW YEARS???

Obviously not. There are good and bad republicans and democrats. Some people cannot or will not accept this fact. God help us all!

Good and Bad in both parties (same as UK, same as Spain). I think the time is well upon us all to call the Party system to account, and look to other methods for electing OUR representatives.

A manifesto based on just 5 or 6 main points that we can all discuss (without the hundreds of other legislative wannabees that sneak in on these manifestos, underneath the radar), whose implementation become the spearhead for 4 years of tenured Government. No War, EVER, without public approval (ie referenda) except where genuine national security is challenged (ie potential invasion of homeland or VERY close ally concern). No "Closed Bidding" contracts, EVER, no Private Federal bank (make it accountable) EVER,

Why do we all accept this prostitution of Democracy?? It is beyond me. WE have allowed this to happen, and now, WE do not have the power to stop it.... the only power WE have is to vote in the "Other" party whose aims are identical to the Party just removed.... Dems, Reps, Lab or Cons, PP or PSOE It's all the same - and we cannot do anything at all to change it because ALL argument divides down these same lines. and all Party members are affiliated to the same external, non-elected, non-accountable, self-serving organisations - whether Skull and Bones, Freemasonry, Rosicrucianists, Bohemian grovists - we are all stuffed. WE ARE TO BLAME.

The pattern is clear, the 2 Party system has divided all democratic nations into opposing camps. This is to dilute any real argument about democracy, and to get both camps to fight between themselves, whilst the "Leaders" from both camps collude between themselves to decide the direction of the human race - they do so through membership of the Organisations mentioned previously - why would Dems / Reps, Cons / Lab all be in the same Organisations? It beggars belief. Surely their "Political Principles" alone would exclude joint membership of these organisations, apparently not.

So those of you vehemently defending Rep/Dem, Lab/Con camps need to ask if you are being used as pawns by leaders that collude together for different aims, aims that you are not privvy to..... This is serious, I am not making any political points, I am genuinely proposing that the "Leaders" of our world, work together, and keep us all in the dark re: their genuine intent.

And yep. You're right. He would. How dare we judge a President by the content of his character instead of the color of his skin!

 Did I say that? Learn the freaking term of what a Socialist is.

He would be rolling his his grave after the way the republicans are acting to the first black president, by asking him for his birth certificate ecttt. Thinking he is not a American ectt. Being the safe haven for rednecks, that are racist. He would have stood by him, since he is the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT. He was fighting for African American rights after all.

Please a true socialistic country, will not happen, because their will be people to pervert it to their ways or social views.."

Could it be that Brack Obama is a capitalist, and not a socialist? Even the top socialist says he is a capitalist, and don't know why Obama is being called a socialist.

The problem is that people don't realize that Socialism and Capitalist are are not mutually exclusive. Americans are no longer in the argument that pure Capitalism is better. When we had that, and it nearly tanked our economy. If, you call everyone one that is to the left socialist then AMERICA is a overwhelming Socialistic nation. :P

Questions about his place of birth came up not because he is black, so don't play the race card.

You see, you are a capitalist. You are capitalizing on the economic slow down as failure of capitalism, and now making a false claim that socialism is the one to correct that. Socialism will only stop the recovery and if the socialist gets their way, it will be short lived for you can alter the result.

We all know that any economy is a cycle, even the mighty economy of Japan then did not grow forever.

Yeah why didn't they ask MCcain about his birth certificate? Since, he was born out side the USA, but of course he WHITE. Why didn't they ask for Clinton or Bush's Birth certificate. It is because he is black and you know it.

He also had it 90% one time but when he left office it was about 34 tied with Carter. Nixon had the lowest for a president when leaving office.

Fear-monger? kinda like when Obama, we need to pass this stimulis bill to avoid a "catastrophe" or the fear-mongering on climate change to avoid irreversible catastrophe?

Actually they did ask McCain for his birth certificate (which he gave the actual birth certificate and not just an online COLB) and the democrats even went so far as having the Senate debate the issue.

McCain's Birth Abroad Stirs Legal DebateHis Eligibility for Presidency Is Questioned

For most candidates for President there is no issue not because of their race but because it has been well known where they were born. Obama is unique in many ways being that he has a father who was not an American citizen and he has kept all of his past records sealed.

I should also point out to you that is was democrats who started raising the issue of Obama’s eligibility and not republicans. So your point of using the BC issue to claim that republicans are racist is even more ridiculous.

Another fake controversy brought up by the whiny republicans. This is of course, what happens whenever any Democrat happens to bring up historical truths about conservatism -- like the fact that it has been on the wrong side of right and wrong for much of the nation's history. They scream and shout about how mean liberals are and then cover over these truths with a pile of afactual excrement.

Of course, Reid was absolutely correct in what he said and was simply pointing out that there was a common thread to all of the events he mentioned. That is, the opponents of health care, just like opponents of civil rights for minorities, and opponents of the vote for women, and opponents of ending slavery all had one big thing in common: They were all conservative.
