Big dog?

So when I was 13 or 14, middle school for sure, I got off the bus one day making my way down my long ass driveway home. I saw my dogs, as always but then realized the dog I thought was my dog was not my dog and was so much larger. Once I came upon this dog it's sheer size almost dwarfed me. My male dog, a blue healer, would not get up. He seemed to have absolutely submitted to this new dog. Well this monster dog would not move and just stared me down. He also would not move out of my way. So I grabbed a nearby shovel hoping to intimidate him. Well it back fired and I found myself climbing a tree and waiting for him to leave.

I lived on 118 acres of land, no neighbors and my parents always worked late. Weird stuff always happened and stray dogs was not out of the norm. However, one of his size was. My step mother at the time had her own story of this dog. He came to the house one morning and acted like he wanted in. When she went to see what was the matter at the door he was on his hind legs. He was so large that he had to look down at her to look at her. This ended in her calling off work because not only was he at the door he was just growling and growling at her. Making all sorts of eye contact and growling. So she just decided to stay inside.

Some days later, it was like 6am. My parents had left for work like 30 minutes ago. I saw lights coming down the driveway. I first assumed it was one of them until I realized that it was not their headlights. Assuming it was trouble I got my gun and loaded it and hid by the window. I peaked to see what or who pulled down my driveway. Who comes down to this creepy place, when the sun still has not risen at 6am. It could only be trouble right? No, it was light little old lady and she came to my door. I answered and she asks "have you seen my dog?" while smirking in a weird way. "He is about yay tall." as she rose her hand above her shoulder. I immediately responded "Uh yeah and he does not like me." She laughed and said "oh Grizz would not harm a fly". I asked, "Grizz?" That is what she named him, how fitting. Just then he came around the corner of the house, thought it was a horse. I am not even kidding. We made eye contact, he and I, and immediately he started growling at me and coming towards me. He literally ignored his owner. And before you assume that I struck him with the shovel. The moment he flipped out from me trying to intimidate him, I ran like a little girl. I told her "There's your dog. BY!" and slammed the door and locked it. She then knocks again with him at my door, which was covered in window glass "Do you want to see him? He is nice!" All with a smile on her face and him growling like he just has to kill me. I walked away and they left somehow.

I forgot to mention, when I asked where she lived and why she thought her dog came here, she said she not only lived around the block, but almost a mile around the block. Not only that she made sure to tell me she lived in the trees around the block. Why or how did she know Grizz went to my house? Makes no sense to me, there were plenty of people on her street. And 9 times out of 10 if your dog runs into the woods he is not going to wind up at my house.

Any idea what was going on here? Also my dad shot him with a 20 guage... That afternoon is when I found out he shot him. All of this while hiding from him inside the house... Dad shot him and he was fine.

So again what gives and what was up with that woman?

Hi,

Take pictures of this dog please. You need to call the police that a dangerous dog is running amok in your neighbourhood. The owner sounds a bit eccentric and not with it. What kind of breed of dog do you think it was?

As for pictures i cannot provide any. This was over a decade ago. I have since moved from that house. I was hoping someone may know some sort of lore about women and some sort of monster dog. The breed however, escapes everyone. He no lie on all fours stood roughly five foot and only stayed around till that woman showed up. Never saw him again after that. A whole nother thing started with my brother and step sister claiming they saw a monster. Red eyes, tuffs of fur around its wrists and ankles. My brother stopped visiting he was so scared. He was only15 at the time that he saw it... so maybe three years after the original incidences.

Just rub his tummy for good luck and offer the old lady some Tea if it happens again.

Sounds like a great dane or other large dog. People in the country like big dogs. Some let them run loose. (shrug!)

There are dogs that are that size. I imagine if you had a good amount of land around where you lived, it'd stand to reason if someone was looking for their dog, they'd eventually stop by and see if he was there.

20 gauges are small shot, normally sued for birds.

if you remeber awhile back in the news Dick Cheney shot a guy straight up in the face with one and the guy wound up fine, so it probably wouldn't do much to a massive dog

He lived. But I bet he was pretty ticked off... :gun:

I'd growl at people who threaten me with shovels and shoot me, too.

Your fear can bring out aggression in some dogs. I know, I'm afraid of dogs I don't know. I had a horrible experience with a couple farm dogs once. My husband can confidently approach a dog with no problem, but if I'm afraid and approach the same dog, I might get a whole different response. Depends on the dog and how it's been trained and to an extent the breed.
