I do have to give my father credit for teaching me how to count cards at a young age, and also showing me how to stack the deck, deal from the bottom and all that.
One time when I was about 14 he took me to Las Vegas and just left me some money after we checked into the hotel and said go have fun. He had five or six decks of cards shuffled together and practiced counting with me again.
Then he disappeared for a week or two, but that wasn't unusual for him. So I was there alone in Sin City, and since I looked older no one stopped me from playing in the casino and doing other things.
Here again, I just thought this was basically a "normal" childhood, at least for me.
