Waspie_Dwarf Posted May 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2012 Falling stout bubbles explained Irish mathematicians may have solved the mystery of why bubbles in stout beers such as Guinness sink: it may simply be down to the glass.Simulations suggest an upward flow at the glass's centre and a downward flow at its edges in which the liquid carried the bubbles down with it. But the reasons behind this flow pattern remained a mystery. Now a study on the Arxiv server reports simulations and experiments showing the standard pint glass shape is at fault. Read more... Taun Posted May 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2012 Hmmm... So these researchers got grant money and studied.... beer... How do I get a job like that?

Taun Posted May 29, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2012 Graduate in fluid dynamics. I spent numerous years in the military... I studied some pretty dynamic fluids - in some pretty dynamic bars all around the world... Does that count?
+OverSword Posted May 30, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2012 Finally, some science I can really appreciate. I think I'll do an independant study after work today.
ThickasaBrick Posted May 31, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 31, 2012 Makes much more sense than my theory that Guinness was so great it defied all physical laws.
wereturnip Posted May 31, 2012 #7 Share Posted May 31, 2012 "May be due to the glass." Why didn't they try another type of glass to see if that was true? Ohhhhh...new round of studies are needed..more grant money...more free Guinness. Brilliant.
