Robbie333 Posted February 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Just a little something I read this morning. Wonder is what sets us apart from other life forms. No other species wonders about the meaning of existence or the complexity of the universe or themselves. Herbert W. Boyer, co-founder of Genentech, Inc. SHaYap Posted February 10, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2011 Look at a dog straight in the eye then ask that same question again. The difference may just vary in dimension and weight but you can't say the dog doesn't wonder why you're looking at it like that

UFO_Monster Posted February 28, 2011 #11 Share Posted February 28, 2011 Apparently, animals have instinctual concepts of life. They try to survive, thus meaning they do not wish to die. Contemplating meaning is something that is most likely beyond their comprehension, however.
Bluefinger Posted March 10, 2011 #12 Share Posted March 10, 2011 Just a little something I read this morning. Wonder is what sets us apart from other life forms. No other species wonders about the meaning of existence or the complexity of the universe or themselves. Herbert W. Boyer, co-founder of Genentech, Inc. Yes, as far as we know, the ability to reflect on how another feels or why we exist is specific to only human beings. I'm not much of an evolutionist, but I do believe that we resemble apes quite a bit in the way we act. To ape means to copy or imitate. Through many psychological experiments, it has been demonstrated that human behavior can often be a result of imitation. We human beings copy things. We can even design things to imitate things that we can't naturally imitate. It makes me wonder, is the reason why we reflect and wonder because we are imitating something else that does the same?
