Do some people take Patriotism too Far?

Okay to clear this up and after speaking to Aztec the idea of the debate is whether some people take Patriotism too far in that Patriotism soom becomes embroiled in Racial hatred and slurs. For example, the 'so called' problems with the British and the French or in a sporting competition where one nation racially abuses the other.  When does Patriotism stop being Patriotic and starts to becomes racially discriminate?

Opening Statement.



Patriotism, while being a noble feeling and mindset, can, and often does lead to extreme actions, including hate, prejudice, division and in many cases, the death of innocent people.

Throughout the history of the world, national leaders have depended on the patriotic feeling of belonging to sidestep the moral code of human interaction.  "They are not patriotic, they don't belong"

Patriotism is not just an American issue, but a global one. Each and every country has it's patriots. What defines the amount of patriotism, is linked to the amount of freedom of speech.  It is also linked to a persons feeling of heritage, government and pride in fellow countrymen/women. It's when patriotism is followed with a blind eye that it becomes extreme.... and deadly

I look forward to this debate with iaapac, I am sure it will be interesting and an eye opener.

Patriotism is the product of man's most noble dreams and his most sanctified sacrifices.  It cannot be confused with radicalism or fanactism that stains politics as well as religion.  Patriotism is the driving force by which nations express themselves through the inspiration of its citizens and it has no limit when expressed in its purest form.  To confuse it with any lesser or more extreme form is to dilute its meaning and nobility.

There are those who would place the name patriotism on issues and actions exercized for other interests but that  cannot be confused with patriotism itself lest we, too, defame it and fall victim to the extremism that is enacted in the name of patriotism but has no resemblance to patriotism itself.
