There's been a fair bit of criticism of the SLS as a rocket in search of a mission, and as being far more expensive than the privately developed rockets like the Falcon family or other space launch technologies. I have no doubt of the technical skill and commitment of the engineers involved, but aren't there better ways of keeping them gainfully employed than on a program which appears to have a lot of political undertones?
