My gardner, a Chinese monk, as well as my cook from Japan, also a monk, might take a different explanation than what you have attempted to provide.Your efforts, never-the-less, are well noted.

I've never stared at myself in a mirror for ten minutes straight, but I have been sort of creeped out by my own reflection before.  I can't stand mirrors in the dark, either.  :/

Have you ever stared at yourself in the mirror for a long time, fixing your eyes on your own without moving, let's say for about 5 to 10 straight minutes? I did this years ago. After a while I started to look very weird and had to look away, probably had something to do with the after-image created from looking for so long super-imposed on my face. Kinda felt like I was tripping or something, never had the guts to try it again. I don't think it's anything paranormal but it sure is strange. Give it a try sometime if you're in the mood and let me know if you get the effect. Maybe it's just me. <img src="http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dontgetit.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="dontgetit.gif" />

Me & my cousin used to do that when we were kids. Once I swear I grew a beard & turned all evil looking & I had to run out of the room. Another time, when I was maybe 18, I did it out of boredom & recalled doing it when I was a kid. my face turned gray & rotten that time. I haven't done it since. & this is coming from someone who wasn't afraid of playing Bloody Mary. LOL!

I did this a few years back. I can't explain why I did it I just felt the urge to see how long I could stare at my own reflection for. I lasted about 5 or six minutes before freaking out. In my experience my face seemed to shift and distort. I haven't got the guts to do it again as mirrors tend to creep me out anyway.

All mirrors should be blessed  when you get them as bad spirit can come in your house so i would never stand and do that did when i was a kid and i was shocked to see a man in my mirror

okay so the last time i stared into a mirror like that was when i was 12 what i say in my eyes was a guy he had a demonic feeling about him i saw him standing leaning against the wall that the mirror faced n he just looked at me smirked and vanished through the wall... of course when i turned away from the mirror he wasn't there and i never saw him again... I never have been scared of mirrors but I will try this n report back as soon as i can  :)

Be careful, isn't that the way narcissists start? Staring at one's self in the mirror?

"The truth is out there......but are we willing to accept it when we find it?"

I've always hated mirrors. My husband doesn't look the same in mirrors when I see him in it, it's  so strange.
Recently at work I was walking past a few washers and dryers and I saw myself still in a washer 3 steps behind me.
My image stopped, and I looked back at it for confirmation and then it vanished. Mirrors are evil. I wish everything
didn't make a reflection.

first of all i dont like mirrors, they scare the hell out of me. blame that on my moms ex boyfriend who scared me to death one night after i watched the movie candyman. my moms ex actually had one of those hooks laying around the house..i guess they use them on farms or something, and some fake blood from halloween and and old mirror and stuck them all in my closet with my name and something else written on the mirror with the fake blood..but i was only like 11 but is scared the living **** out of my when i slid my closet door open :o

I read a story in a book before about this little girl who used to always tell her mam she had a friend that lived in her mirror and she used to talk to her every night. Her mam never believed her but would often hear her talking to herself. One night the girl came down to her mam saying the girl in the mirror said her friend ( Gracie i think) was really sick. The mother passed it off as nonsense but her daughter was really insistent so she rang Gracies mother just to give her daughter piece of mind. Anyway Gracie's mother went and checked on her daughter just to make sure and she was in bed dying sick. She called the doctor and the girl survived. The girl in the mirror never came back. I read this story in one of those unexplained true stories novels and haven't looked at a mirror the same since. I myself can't stare in the mirror too long or it freaks me out its like looking at a diferent person like its you but its someone else someone not nice :/
