+susieice Posted September 14, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) About 10:50 PM on Friday, September 12th two State Police officers from Pennsylvania were ambushed at their barracks while changing shifts. One was killed and one is in serious condition. I live about an hour's drive from there. All of our local law enforcement are on high alert as the perb(s) haven't been found yet. http://www.cnn.com/v...derway.cnn.html Our local news is reporting that paramedics responding to the scene were also under fire. http://www.lehighval...ncart_most-read Edited September 14, 2014 by susieice
libstaK Posted September 14, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2014 Wow, that's awful. My thoughts are with the family of the dead officer. Let's hope this is just a nutcase "wannabe" of the regular variety and that they catch him or them soon.
Kenemet Posted September 14, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2014 Sadly, there's no suspects. I suspect the shooter will make another assault.
Skep B Posted September 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2014 I think one of the troopers was the target, the other being collateral. A personal issue possibly. Or a family member of someone recently arrested or put in prison wanting revenge. There's a few things in the story that don't make sense. The EMT's being under fire for example, the police should've been able to respond in some way before the EMT arrived or started set up of a landing pad. So, it's probably someone with an understanding of procedure, and they have a basic knowledge of the schedules. So, another cop possibly.
+susieice Posted September 14, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted September 14, 2014 Jeffrey Hudak was the person of interest that was interviewed yesterday by State Police. He has not been arrested and not much is coming out in the news yet as to why he was questioned. http://thetimes-tribune.com/news/no-suspects-in-custody-in-ambush-at-state-police-barracks-1.1752525 Since the barracks was so rural, it is believed the person or persons who did this specifically targeted this barracks and most likely are local. Jilliman Posted September 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 15, 2014 That's really scary. I can't believe they didn't catch the perp yet. Only a few hours from where I live too. :/
+susieice Posted September 15, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted September 15, 2014 The second trooper shot is now conscious and speaking. pallidin Posted September 16, 2014 #12 Share Posted September 16, 2014 Who in their right mind would kill a law-enforcement officer, perhaps the very same officer that would risk their own life to save your children. I guess criminals don't think that way.

Jilliman Posted September 16, 2014 #14 Share Posted September 16, 2014 As of this morning the perp is still at large (heard the announcement over the radio on the way to work). They think the perp has hide firearm training and spends time at shooting ranges. $75,000 reward for information (I think that's what they said). They're also not ruling out "mental-instability" as a contributing factor to the motive. This is all just what I heard this morning though. I'm not seeing how the perp will get away. I think he will be caught. Either someone will speak or he will strike again.

+susieice Posted September 16, 2014 Author #17 Share Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Just found out they named their suspect. Sounds like a really crazy one too. http://www.foxnews.c...state-troopers/ Hope he stays out of my area. I'm not anywhere near far enough away to suit me. Local report here. http://www.wfmz.com/news/Regional-Poconos-Coal/source-psp-has-suspect-in-trooper-shooting/28084340 Edited September 16, 2014 by susieice
Jilliman Posted September 17, 2014 #18 Share Posted September 17, 2014 Less than two hours from my town and less than an hour from my fiancé's town and where he works. I'm gonna be uneasy until this guy is found...not to mention my cousin is a cop in a nearby town. :/ I hope they catch him soon.
+susieice Posted September 17, 2014 Author #19 Share Posted September 17, 2014 Schools in the area are closed tomorrow. There's a good chance the Poconos are his comfort zone and he'll stick close by. I'm an hour away and a little jittery myself. http://www.wfmz.com/news/Regional-Poconos-Coal/school-district-cancels-classes-in-wake-of-police-shooter-identification/28094966

Jilliman Posted September 17, 2014 #21 Share Posted September 17, 2014 I can't believe they still haven't found him but then again the Poconos can be hard to navigate (as is most of PA). I kinda wonder if he will kill himself if he knows he will be caught and try to take down others with him. I hope it's not the case.

Jilliman Posted September 17, 2014 #23 Share Posted September 17, 2014 Arm yourself. I have pepper spray, a knife, a self defense keychain that is sharp, and I have a taser but that's at home. My fiancé always carries a knife with him. Hoping this creep doesn't come anywhere near where I live, chances are he's sticking to living in the woods. I really hope they catch him soon.
+susieice Posted September 17, 2014 Author #24 Share Posted September 17, 2014 I heard they are searching an area north of Lake Wallenpaupack. Allegedly someone saw a man in the woods with a rifle. Our schools were closed for a short time around noon while police checked out a suspicious car that could have been related to the suspect. All was ok, but this is nerve-wracking for people in the surrounding areas.
+susieice Posted September 18, 2014 Author #25 Share Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) Schools will remain closed tomorrow to keep kids from bus stops. They don't think the suspect will attack a school as he seems more focused on law enforcement. He went to several colleges in the area also. The area around East Stroudsburg University was checked today because of a report Frein may have been seen there. People are being told to keep their doors locked and to check their sheds and property. Report anything that seems unusual. http://www.wfmz.com/...-loose/28115010 http://www.wfmz.com/...tinues/28108294 Scary not knowing where this man is. Links to things mentioned in my 2 post can be found under local news poconos in the wfmz website. A great description of him was just added: Who Is Eric Frein- http://www.wfmz.com/news/Regional-Poconos-Coal/who-is-eric-frein/28115646 Edited September 18, 2014 by susieice
