23.10.2007 Russia's Proton K Booster with GLONASS M Spacecraft on Launch Pad

Khrunichev- built Proton K booster with GLONASS M spacecraft was installed on the launch pad at Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan,yesterday.

Khrunichev Space Center (KhSC) personnel and their colleges from other Russia’s space industry enterprises are busy with the scheduled pre-launch activities.

Preparations Under Way To Launch Proton K with Three GLONASS M Spacecrafts

25.10.2007 The launch of Khrunichev-built Proton K with three GLONASS M satellites for Russian Global Navigation Satellite System ( GLONASS) is currently scheduled for a reserve day, October 26, at 11:35 Moscow Time, from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan

Following the new launch date set for the launch, a technical meeting was held today at Baikonur to agree the subsequent changes in pre-launch activities schedule.

The integrated space rocket Proton K/DM upper stage with GLONASS M satellites was installed on its launch pad and erected in vertical position on Monday, October 22. The launch team comprising Khrunichev Space Center (KSC), RSC Energia, Barmin General Engineering Design Bureau (KBOM), “Baikonur” Federal Space Center, and other Russia’s space industry entities are conducting the final launch operations with the launch vehicle and the spacecrafts agreed for the reserve launch day.

Russia's Proton Rocket 328th Flight

26.10.2007 A Khrunichev –made Proton K launch vehicle, carrying three satellites of the Russian government’s GLONASS constellation, was launched today from Baikonur at 11:35 Moscow time (MT) today, on October 26, from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. The launch marks the 328th Proton mission.

The launch was carried out by Russian Space Forces launch crew. The Proton rocket performed normally. The separation of the CLONASS trio spacecrafts from DM upper stage ( made by Russia’s RSC Energia) is expected at 15:07 Moscow Time.

The launch was conducted under the Russian Federation “Global Navigation System Program”- GLONASS.

GLONASS is a dual –purpose global navigation system designed to serve the Russian Ministry of Defense and civil users.

The system is intended to provide continues navigation coverage allowing unlimited number of domestic and foreign users at sea, in the air, and land to determine precise coordinates, velocity and time.

The Proton heavy class launch vehicle is manufactured by Khrunichev Space Center. The launcher has high power capacity and remarkable operational capabilities. Proton is currently used for implementation of national programs and commercial launches of satellites for customers wordwide.

In 2007 year the Proton K vehicle will continue to carry out missions under GLONASS program. The next Proton launch with GLONASS spacecrafts is scheduled for the third quarter of this year.
