E.B.E. Posted January 11, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2005 I read somewhere that if you tear a peice off the left corner of,say,a 20 dollar note you can pull out a silver strip.the strip is used so that when you go to places like airports or banks the strips can be read by computers so they know how much money you have and what your going to do with it. Is this true?
*MoG* Posted January 11, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2005 No. The strip is there to show if the note is real or not. It is very hard to fact the metal strip and would be too expensive for forgers to bother about. Don't worry, no-one is trying to find out how much money you have - if they really wanted to know they would just steal your information of off the internet anyway. deerfly Posted January 12, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2005 The magnetic strip is in money so the value of the money can be scanned. If you put a 5$ bill in a change machine-how does it know what denomination the bill is? the magnetic strip.

EDIT: Found just one of a huge amount of articles about the bugs in 20s, they are only in the newer ones - not older ones (for obvious reasons). Link To look for other articles search these keywords(based on google search format word in "" is must contain this word):- 20 dollar bill "RFID" Edited January 13, 2005 by Blood Angel
Insight Posted January 13, 2005 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Actually, they do infact have devices fully capable ot reading how much money in on a person. However, they have not been implemented for public use, and are in the experimental stage right now.

riotboy555 Posted January 13, 2005 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2005 (edited) i dont think any computers would be able to tell what you were gonna do with money in your pocket because people could easily change their minds about what they would do with it.
