We still lack a complete understanding of the pineal gland -- but that doesn't stop us from speculating.

Located in nearly the direct center of the brain, the tiny pinecone-shaped pineal gland, which habitually secretes the wondrous neurohormone melatonin while we sleep at night, was once thought to be a vestigial leftover from a lower evolutionary state.

I always thought the term third eye was a metaphoric one, but "current scientific understanding is that the pineal gland probably started out as an eye"?

A new way for me to use the term 'mind's eye'.

Interesting article, the part about the circadian rhythm is definitely true. I worked night shift, 10 pm - 7 am, for ten years and I don't think I slept well the entire time. I was such a biatch! Or so I was told...lol No one let's you sleep in the daytime!
