UKIP's Farage should not take part in TV election debates, says PM

David Cameron has dismissed calls for UKIP leader Nigel Farage to be allowed to take part in the leaders' debates at the next general election, due in 2015.

The PM told The House magazine only parties "that are going to form the government" should be included.

Mr Farage once accused Mr Cameron of being "weak" and suggested he was not "grown up and sensible" enough.

Thought you lived in a democracy?....think again. A sure sign that the usual suspects are starting to panic. More smear campaigns on the horizon no doubt.

Mr Farage said: "If UKIP's share of the opinion polls were to continue as they are now, to exclude us from the debates when the Lib Dems were included last time would make British politics look as outdated as the closed shop and embarrassingly out of touch.

Spot on.

Its nothing short of an attempt to close down our Democracy by eliminating political rivalry.

Fair and open elections should always be conducted which means all parties standing candidates in the election should be entitled to participate in debates.

well, am not surprised, the knives will be out for UKIP. there is no dirtier profession than politics. trouble is here in the UK, each of the three main parties have major news papers backing them, such as the Telegraph - Tory - Daily Mirror - Labour, Guardian - Lib Dem. all three papers will savagely attack UKIP from now till the next election. we'll even see the three parties combining in their attacks. I think the main reason they dont want him to take part in the televised debates is the simple fact he's a good orator and would wipe the floor with all three of them, plus the small matter of - people tending to go for style over substance. am not saying UKIP dont have substance, but at this moment in time they are a limited party. could they form a government? not sure, but then again. just think we have civil servants who run the government departments, its only the minister who makes the final decision: the same civil servants serve successive governments. people seem to forget this. - when the government change the civil servants dont. the same civil servants under the labour government are the same civil servants serving the current Government.

That someone would likely win a debate is a crummy reason to ban them from it, don't you think?

Politics are largely the same over here. Political bias in our media feels like it's near an-all time high. Except that winning political debates over here doesn't mean nearly as much as promising the right cookies to the most voters.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there steve, he certainly wipes the floor with all those MEPs when he tells it like it is.

The state British politics are in it wouldnt take a good orator to wipe the floor with them.

Farage's party will wipe the floor with the Tories, Liebour and LibDumbs should no EU referendum be forthcoming by 2015.

Labour and LibDems might be chuffed that UKIP are threatening to take votes off the Tories but should the British people not be given the chance to vote to leave the EU by 2015 then Labour and LibDems will also lose votes to UKIP, too.

All three main parties need to wake up, smell the bacon and realise that Europskepticism is now the mainstream view amongst the British public and they can't keep holding off a referendum for much longer.

Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary William Hague has said that there is a "strong case" for an EU referendum:.

The foreign secretary said he wanted the UK's EU membership to be a success but "fresh consent" would likely be needed as the institution changed. He pointed out that the British people have not had a say on whether or not they want to be in the EU since 1975 and it's time they were given the decision again.

But Nigel Farage, the leader of the UK Independence Party, said he feared that any changes Mr Cameron could obtain from Brussels would be "cosmetic" and the UK risked becoming "a province of a United States of Europe".

"What is really happening is that we will get the speech and then the Conservatives will launch a five-year campaign to try and keep us in the EU," he told the Marr show.

"It is all reminiscent of 1975 when Harold Wilson came back with a cosmetic renegotiation and put it to the country."

is Cameron making his speech tomorrow (Monday) about the EU? he's not going to say what i want, i know. he'll go on about remaining in the EU and go on about reform, and claiming back certain powers. but whenever the 'experts' talk about the EU especially its problems and solving them, they all say the EU needs further integration. with each passing treaty the EU gains more and more powers. really whats happening today is a waste of time even debating it. we know what the end result is. a Federal Union and everything that goes with that. one central government, one central bank, single currency etc.. the questions Cameron should be asking is Do you want the United Kingdom to become a province of Europe. and all governmental decisions made by the Federation. If the answer is NO. then we might as well leave right now. why wait years? we know the end result!
