I think Alice Walker said when she was writing "The Color Purple" that the words poured through her, she had done no research, but had simply written the story as it was given to her. Sorta the same thing.

Of course, this could be disputed, but I wrote a particular fanfic many years ago. It was in one shot, which surprises me, because I never do that. I always, somewhat in a joking manner, say George the resident ghost helped me. I was living in military housing at the time, which I believe was haunted. I have had many experiences there. Anyways, it was a neighbor who told me a story about a military ghost named George who haunts the place protecting wives of deployed airmen. So, I jokingly think George helped me write it.
