Some here think I am 'talking down on them',  being an old fart and such.

No way, I have really 'been there'

When I was around 16 years of age, I gobbled up  anything a Von Däniken wrote, or a Charroux, or a Cayce, or a Blavatsky, or a Churchward, or any of those famous rear-end prophets who never showed us anything to back up their claims they published about.

I laid cards for people (Tarot or common cards) who asked me for advice, I interpreted horoscopes on demand, I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine for 3 very long years...

I know where I am coming from, but I lost 'faith', LOL.

Meaning: I finally woke up to the real world.

And I can tell you from experience: it is a RUDE awakening.

I (sheepishly) admit to swallowing Von Daniken's line of swill when I was in my late teens... and I was heavily leaning toward believeing in Mu of Lemuria or whatever... Fortunately for me somewhere around age 21 or 22 my brain started working (somewhat)...

As to tarot... I've played around but it was always in fun - never truely believing - same with Ouija... Horoscopes I've never believed in at all..

I would prefer it if you didn't mention in public that you had 'played around ............. in fun ............ with Ouija'. Thank you.

I understand what you are saying and perhaps you are right to think that way. Ironically, from time to time, I also come across people who 'discover' or maybe already in touch with stuff like spirituality, a religion, the universe, etc. or anything which seems to be greater themselves or perhaps supernatural or divine or related to magic, who claim to have found the true meaning of life. I don't think there really is anything to 'awaken' from. Every life is a conscious experience, each with it's own story and meaning. If I say "I have woken up to the real world", it could imply that those who don't see things my way must be either asleep or blind to the actual reality. There are over 7 billion people around the globe, and it's possible that everyone perceives this world in his/her own unique fashion, according to their own level of comprehension and based on lessons learnt from their respective past experiences. Hence, there could be the same number of different interpretations to the same world around us. It's very natural to be both skeptical even when something's obvious or to believe even when something seems incredible. Doesn't mean you were wrong in the past. It means you were just learning. The present is the only reality we can bet on, tomorrow you could find yourself to be 'waking up' to a new one again, right? Some say that knowledge eventually makes us tolerant and forgiving towards anything ignorant, even when we see it in ourselves. I guess, it's all part of one's experience.

Good thread. Take care man.

I thank you all for taking the trouble to reply; I really thought no one would even bother, lol.

My point was this: I may have become a (kind of notorious) skeptic, but I wasn't always like that.

I have read and believed in all the scheise people still come up with to this day.

And I am talking about 40 years ago.

Love you Abe! You're the kind of personality places like this need. The world needs skepticism and it also needs a little cynicism once in a while. There is nothing wrong with asking for evidence and thinking critically about the reality like there's nothing wrong with wondering about certain things.  The only problem as I see it arises when people start believing anything just because it is more interesting than the truth, which can seem undane at times.

I didn't know all that about you and it is interesting to get the fuller picture. You are wise and not afraid to learn or tell it how it is.

However, you knew there would be a however.... what do you say of someone like Graham Hancock who straddles fiction and non-fiction? He talks with a fair amount of reason but what is his agenda? He has travelled the world and seen a lot yet he has kept faith with the belief in an advanced pre-diluvian civilization, is this solely to promote his books or do you think he geneuinely believes in what he writes about? I would say he has "been there" more than most it seems, has had some experiences that you have enjoyed but he retains this way of thinking... What was it for you that closed the door? Did you not find enough experiences to validate your thoughts or was it something specific? I do understand that successive reading of Sitchin, EVD, HPB, etc. would lead you to lose faith with people who cannot reference properly and make this up and pass it off as fact or simply make wild misinterpretations but just curious as to how you would judge it?

Never read much Erich Von D as a younger man, but Andrew Tomas was a favourite of mine.

Andrew Tomas was a nephew of Von Däniken.

Lose all the 'faith' you want.

Just don't lose your knack for writing and research.

That, and the incising remarks toward the uninitiated.

Keeps us on our toes, to be perfectly vrank (heh).

Thanks Lilthor.

Believe me, I will keep all of you on your toes, as long as I can.

And right now I am watching a dvd of a performance of Metallica, 1995, Las Vegas.

That's 3 hours and 10 minutes of hard rock.

Metallica.

My youngest son riffs The Four Horsemen on his guitar non-stop until my ears bleed and I beg him to turn it down a notch.

That's how frickin' old I am.
